How can Christians not admit Christianity is all a pile of garbage when ...?
RE: How can Christians not admit Christianity is all a pile of garbage when ...?
Facepalm

I'd really, really, really like to believe that you're just pulling everyone's leg, but I can't. Did you attend a religious school? Did you graduate?

(by the by, I never want to hear you claim that some part of science backs up the biblical account after your last post. Since science apparently can't do that. I've never seen someone tank every one of their own arguments so thoroughly in a single sentence.)
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

And though I said it doesn't make sense to mix history with science (this does not mean you cannot have history of science), One subject can be very well mixed with science. Math can be mixed because it can be applied to what is directly observed. Math has no use except for its application to other things. So it makes sense for math to be applied to science but if you notice science cannot do math that cannot be mathematically done. Just as if you were to mix history and science, science cannot exceed the limitations of history.

Hey I can believe science backs up the bible, but I cannot call accounts of the bible science. You can come up with scientific processes that explain historical accounts, but you cannot make up historical accounts and call it science because the processes are scientific and say it has been proven that it happened.
Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Stop right there Chip, "science is not for what was". Unless Abraham is on that mountain right now, as we speak, then I don't want to hear about science backing up your biblical accounts. Your rules, not mine, have the decency to follow them.

Good, then you can stop saying the universe was a hot dense spot the size of an atom. Stop saying we were single cell organisms and we changed into this. Or at separate those claims from science.

Sure, NP, it's all complete bullshit (deja vu), now tell me why your narrative is correct?

Wrong again but at least you're streak is intact.

BTW, how's your "Tyre" research coming along. Or have you finally given up and realized that your "prophecy" is bullshit?

No, it doesn't mean that at all.

On the contrary I had absolutely no idea at the time that any such "golden rule" existed. The fact that my natural intuitive feelings on the matter can be stated via the"golden rule" are pure coincidence.

In fact, all that goes to show is that the very concept of the so-called 'golden rule' is extremely natural and intuitive.

It didn't originate with Jesus. This idea was taught by Buddha, Confucius, Lao Tzu, and many others long before the rumors of Jesus ever came to be.

Oh absolutely, a sort of reciprocity ethic has been common to almost every culture on earth. This is actually a part of the kind of Christian metaphysics I was talking about earlier where there is truth everywhere, including other religions. As far as my claim that you were quoting from Luke goes, I said that because you used the exact wording that Jesus did. The Golden Rule is in many cultures, but the way it's stated is very different. Which brings me to . . .

The "eye for an eye" stuff was actually from Babylon and the Jewish people borrowed it. Funny thing is, that particular saying is the Babylonian way of expressing the Golden Rule. So like I said, the version you chose to cite, and the version you chose to critique is important. The Golden Rule may translate roughly across cultures, but each one has a different way of saying it and a different way of thinking about its meaning.

There are quiet a few others who responded to my posts while I was gone for the last week or so, so I apologize if I don't get to them all.

@Minimalist, I love Handel's Messiah as well!

Just how golden is this rule, if it can mean "an eye for an eye"? Sounds like common human revenge to me. Definitely not a rule I'd look to live my life by.

Haha! Come on Rhythm, just how obsessed are you with keeping BOTH of your eyes? Oh I would agree with that one not being "Golden" but the people who study reciprocal ethics would cite that as one of the earliest versions of the Golden Rule. It's in the same category, but you won't find me poking eyes out either, most conflicts I try to settle with a conversation and some cookies.
