ROFLOL

Good one.
I take it that you don't beleive that belief or disbelief should be subject to evaluation in an attempt to determine their veracity?

"Belief" is worthless. For all we know the believer could be totally insane.
You know, there have been plenty of xtians who believe that "god" told them to kill their families. Do you accept that belief?

Evidence. Without evidence beliefs are mere delusion. With evidence they become worthy of discussion. Most of what xtians think passes for evidence is little more than more "belief" anyway.

That's kind of the point I was making actually.

I got tired of listening to that kind of shit. So many of my friends will say that kind of stuff, and I find it just sad.

To the point that i started replying saying: "Oh.. well.. You too, man. You're such a nice guy, seems smart etc. How can you possibly believe in this pathetic nonsense?"

Or even I go down the closing down route: "Ok, talking about God and shit.. You believe in this god, but doesn't believe that god there.. right? Why don't you believe that god and choose to believe your god? Those are THE SAME REASONS why I don't believe in your bloody god!"

You should point out to her that you are not only nice, but also wise, and evolved.

I have heard that one before. Then they ask what incident caused me to turn my back on God. I politely explain that nothing happened. If they push the issue,I may tell them where to go.

Long-life and maturity generally cure people of this kind of ill eventually. I wouldn't have started quoting scripture to someone who had no respect for its content. It would seem counter-productive and very much a dead end to me. I would have been more interested to find out how you'd come to the conclusions you have. In that way, I could evaluate whether your disbelief had any merit or whether it was merely the product of rebellion or otherwise a will set against an affirmative and appropriate belief in or acknowledgment of He who is ultimately responsible for your existence.

In His Grip,

Two way street, you want to evaluate others disbelief? That's an invitation to have your own pet thoughts scrutinized. To determine merit in the manner you have described you would have to first establish that there is any rebellion whatsoever, that whatever belief you're judging their disbelief against is actually "appropriate" (whatever the hell you're using that to mean in the first place), and finally, that your favorite fantasy is, in fact, responsible for anyone's existence - and crucially, that it even exists itself-. Good luck with all of that.

Try this on for size. There is a god, but not the one you believe in. It is not responsible for anyone's existence, it neither requires nor deserves any faith or belief and therefore any faith or belief in it is inappropriate, those who do not believe are in no way rebelling against this god because there is no grounds or opportunity for rebellion (and quite frankly, it doesn't give a shit, probably doesn't even know you're there). I offer this up in the hopes that it will cause you to evaluate your beliefs, and whether or not they have any merit. The assumptions you made just in the way you described your evaluation of others disbelief lead me to suspect that you may be incapable of reaching any worthwhile conclusions with regards to others belief (or lack thereof) in any god whatsoever. At least until you can face up to the assumptions that you have made.
