People are generally motivated by beliefs--unless this guy really just randomly decided to shoot up this place and then randomly decided to say it was because of what the organization stood for.
Figuring out what beliefs motivated this guy could be important--helpful in predicting if/when it could happen again, identifying potential targets in order to better protect them, looking for "red flags" that could help identify similar offenders in the future, etc. What I find disturbingly interesting is the scant coverage of the FRC shooting by the leftwing news media, especially since they're so quick to blame and to link conservatives and the Tea Party to other shootings like the recent shooting in Colorado and the shooting of Representative Gabby Giffords. Here we have a person, a volunteer at a gay center, that intended to kill people at the FRC building who was obviously influenced by the heated rhetoric from the left, including Mayors Rahm Emmanuel and Tom Menino and including the Southern Poverty Law Center over Dan Cathy's comments supporting traditional marriage. There's been very little coverage on the FRC shooting from the liberal news media because it draws negative attention to a liberal platform that they support.....
ABC's Brian Ross was too quick to suggest that a Tea Party adherent was responsible for the Auroa shooting before he had to retract and apologize......

Neither side is clean in this issue, but I think we need to stop splitting us apart by political ideology. When violence such as this happens, we should all come together to mourn and help with whatever the situation calls for, instead of using it to point fingers at the other side and blame them for it. It is not the time to play this immature game of which side has done what to whom and rehash through that. The point is to have a goal to end the violence, not pointing fingers at each other, in an attempt to label the other side of the poiitical spectrum as the bad guys.

That's a pretty serious inference to draw with so little justification, I think. You might want to give reasons why the story is newsworthy enough (both on its own, and relative to other current news items) that the "liberal news media" should have reported on it.
After all, there's lots of shootings that aren't reported on by liberal news organizations and conservative news organizations, and the decision isn't always made on a political basis.

I have to disagree with you CS. You weighed in pretty heavy on this yourself and took some pointed challenges by other posters. It was newsworthy enough for you to debate. Are you now saying that this politically motivated shooting is not newsworthy after all?

I agree that violent acts like this--violence directed people because their beliefs differ from one's own--are reprehensible and shouldn't ever happen.
There are always trolls that come out of the woodwork--like the people who cheer when their hated political figures get cancer (e.g., Tony Snow)--but I guess you just have to ignore them.

I'm not saying that it isn't newsworthy. I'm saying that before you blame news stations for not reporting it, you're gonna have to establish that they should have reported it.

Bullshit. There is a saying in media and even FUCKS NEWS competes for this saying "If it bleeds it leads". They will use death for ratings like any media. When soldiers die when Bush is was in office, FUCKS NEWS use it for "PROUD TO BE AN MER CAN". When soldiers die under Obama they say "WHY ARE WE STILL THERE".
If this guy had killed 13 or 29 people instead of just injuring I security guard, this would be news and Rush and Hanity would use to defend the NRA. The reason it did not make news, would be the same if the Arorah shooter had only clipped a ticket taker and got talken right after that and no one died. It would have remained local.
Tons of people are murdered outside mass shootings in domestic crime and gang violence EVERY DAY.
The reason this did not compete with Va Tec or Arorah was numbers. No one died.

San Francisco Mayor Edwin Lee used Twitter to warn the company.
"Closest #ChickFilA to San Francisco is 40 miles away & I strongly recommend that they not try to come any closer"
Or else....what?
Imagine if some other public servant had said that.
Thats how the vigilante mentality creeps into someones head thinking they have a mandate...(and a gun)

You can solve an awful lot with guns. It just causes extra problems.
