How can you base arguments off of these claims when neither have been proven to be valid?

What God did to cover this gap is sacerfice His son to cover the 'wrong-ness' of our efforts. All He has asked in return is to take our efforts and acknoweledge the sacerfice made. This 'effort' is known as Christianity, or rather Biblically Based Christianity. Even in biblically based Christianity our religious efforts are incomplete. That is where His grace and mercy comes in. It forgives our short commings and leaves the expression of Love we show when we worship in our various religious practices.

Let me correct that for you.

No one religion is right, except the religion that claims that a god sacrificed his son to forgive our sins.

Got it.

Which religion is that again?

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

It's argument against Deism, not an argument against Atheism. Tongue

Why are atheists voting, though? (Two have so far)

I know that. It makes no difference.

This post on another thread prompted the creation of this thread:
Quote:So, again, if your standards of evidence allow you to accept Yahweh, then why don't you accept the Flying Spaghetti Monster? What makes him less valid? (Other than the fact that everone knows it is supposed to be a parody)
The first factor I'll note in differentiating religions is the "other than" noted above. If someone isn't making a serious claim, I don't give it consideration. I would think this would be obvious - you apparently do too, as noted above re: FSM - but lately atheists have been making arguments like, If you believe in God based on the Bible, you should believe in hobbits based on The Lord of the Rings. Tolkein (a Christian BTW) published LOTR as fiction.

The argument between a religious person like a Muslim and a Deist, would not be upon whether or not God exists. Therefore you take that assumption since you already agree upon that, and move on from there.

How do you know that the 'parody' of the FSM was not inspired by the FSM himself in order to test the faithful by disguising it as a parody?

But if you have a problem with the FSM, or the LotR (being published as fiction), how about all the other religious texts?

If the Bible is evidence of Yahweh, why are the Vedas not evidence of Shiva? Or the Avesta not evidence of Ahura Mazda?

So you are saying that rather than christianity being right, it is just somewhat more accurate? (for clarity) On that note, that would mean you accept Jesus as divine. On what grounds do you mean to claim that this is true while ressurection claims made by other religions are false?

No, christianity as a religion, is not 'right' either. However Biblical Christianity is the only one God offers to us personally. It is the only viable bridge between our best (failed) personal efforts and what God has identified as 'Right.'

How do I know this to be true? Because God said so. ;P
