Waiting for the Power to Go Out

Quote: And I hope ShellB and Tiberius are snuggled up keeping warm. I haven't seen a report on how Boston fared, but hopefully everyone is well.

Trust Tiberius to bring British weather with him?? Joke

RE: Waiting for the Power to Go Out
One son from Eastern Long Island reports his power is out although it did flicker briefly indicating that they are working on it.

The other son near NYC did not lose power and is working this morning, although the town he lives and works in has its own local power company.

Damage on the barrier beach of Fire Island has apparently been extensive. Lots of rich republicunt bastards have summer homes there. Now we'll see how serious they are about government flood insurance being "wrong."

We have a friend that has a weekend home on Fire Island, he and his family have a condo in NYC too. They're not republicans, but they are wealthy. I hope his house gets fixed up by this summer (which I'm confident they can do with or without the help of insurance), he knows how to throw a party! Ah, NYC lawyers...

EDIT: Ooops, my mistake, our friend's home is on Shelter Island, not Fire Island.

I bought cool LED head lights for everyone in the family, so we can walk around the house looking like coal miners. Extra gas and oil for the chain saw too. Downloaded a few more Kindle books and a shitload of podcasts to combat boredom. Hope everyone stays safe out there in atheist land. You believers out there....watch out for falling crucifixi, waiting to snap off a limb.

We were fine during the storm. I hope you were safe. Our power only flickered on and off but it stayed on for the rest of the night. We just got a lot of rain, wind and some flooding. Some roads are closed by my house. Have to take a different way to get anywhere. What a mess! It took us a half an hour to get me to work yesterday because of the roads being closed. But at least I made it on time.

The people with beachside homes love government flood insurance. It means that their fellow taxpayers took on the risk of their beach houses being washed away, basically removing the risk of building where reason would otherwise tell you not to. And now our taxes will be used to rebuild those homes that washed away in the hurricane. If it was a sensible risk to take, like the majority of homes, then insurance companies would sell the coverage at a reasonable rate.
