I know...I know, sometimes people insist that others individual statements or articles of faith be consistent with the entirety of the religious narrative...especially when they claim to believe in that narrative. Fucking bastards. It's not like we can hold a single christian accountable for all the jackassed one-liners we can dredge up in the holy babble or anything....and it isn't as though said christian has actually read the damned babble (before offering their glowing support of it) in the first place.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Sucks when people tell you what you think doesn't it? Undecided

"You worldly people just want to be immoral."
"You former christians were never really christians."
"You atheists hate god."
"You people don't know what real love is."

...on and on it goes. Blah blah blah.
Christards are the kings of hypocrisy.

Well, see, that's the rub of it. If you don't celebrate these crimes, you are not a faithful believer, because you are categorically repudiating huge chunks of your own holy scripture. If you believe God is love, either you have never read your bible, or your definition of 'love' is something which would frighten any sane person. If you call rape, torture, slavery and genocide 'crimes', you are calling your own god, and many of his most famous prophets, criminals. It is not possible to square this circle.

Don't blame us. We did not write the scriptures and we did not make the rules.

"You..." is quite specific in the above.
And those '' '' are quotation marks.

Show me where John V said any of those things @ anyone here.
Use the quote function please.
Otherwise retract (apology optional.)

And lets just stick to what is actually said to you by people who are actually here.

I want to suggest that Ryantology put Christians here to the test and show an actual verse from the bible that says anything remotely like torture/rape/genocide is good and must be celebrated.

Example
Quote:Book, Chapter, Verse.
"And God said thou shalt celebrate rape torture slavery"

Then....
Pop quiz for John V, Drich, Godschild, Lion IRC, CliveStaples, A Theist, Tnmusicman, Jeffonthenett, Atomic, etc.

Do you agree with that verse - Yes or No.
Do you like that verse - Yes or No.
Do you agree that verse applies to Christians - Yes or No.

How hilariously predictable. I don't really need to cite a verse with that specific statement, because you are required, as a basic article of faith, to accept God's works as good and righteous. If you do, you celebrate his crimes. There is no escaping that.

But, I accept the challenge nonetheless.

It is therefore obvious that God demands the glorification of slaughter and torture by his followers. I have no doubt you will try to rationalize all of it.

I love comedy.

No! Christ changed everything.

We were ruled by law, now we are under God's grace and have the Holy Spirit.

Jesus came to "fulfill the law, not to abolish it..." Meaning it was "finished".

As Christians we are NOW to love God, and one another as ourselves.

So, we'll keep our OT for reference....keep Christ as our new guide!

But, this is all for your comedic fun? Let not God's Word go in vain.

"Let all those who have eyes, see. And all those who have ears, hear."

And yet he may have been a pharisee.

Everything about jesus is up for debate isn't it.

Nothing can be definitively pinned down.

Quote:Falk examines two factions of the Pharisees, a group of pious Jews who believed in the resurrection of the dead, rewards and punishments for this life in the next and rabbinic authority to interpret Jewish law. These two parties, the School of Hillel and the School of Shammai, clashed shortly before Jesus' birth. Jewish tradition records that the rigid Shammaites held religious control throughout Jesus' life and during the founding decades of the Christian Church. But by A.D. 70 the more flexible Hillel school had become pre-eminent and the predecessor of today's traditional Judaism. In Falk's theory, Jesus was a Pharisee of the Hillel school, so that his denunciations ("Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites!") were aimed at the Shammai school, not Jews in general, and not even at all Pharisees.

I know people who would argue against that interpretation.
This shows what an ambiguous piece of crap the bible is. How can people live by it if they can't agree what it says!

You can fix ignorance, you can't fix stupid.

Tinkety Tonk and down with the Nazis.

There are a distressingly large number of your co-religionists who would disagree with your interpretation of that.

But, that's neither here nor there. Regardless of your interpretation, Jesus did not repudiate nor condemn any of what he did (as God) in the Old Testament. The crimes were still committed and still celebrated as good works. And, though the OT is definitely more horrific than the NT and provides the juiciest tidbits, that's only a relative thing.
