LOL. My favorite christmas memories all revolve around fucking with other peoples yard art. Boy I sure do love christmas though, little jesus in a manger, rapped in that rebel flag (so he doesnt freeze his little balls off like the pit bull cowering under the same) - with a "trespassers will be shot" sign stapled to the couch hanging from the tree in the front yard.....

I can't say I've given it a lot of thought. I enjoy the holidays, and religion is kinda my thing, so I enjoy all the ritual and shit. It doesn't really bother me. People complain about the consumerism, but I see that as incoherent political posturing, grandstanding for ideology. The nature of our industrial society has some problem trends, but anti-consumerist nutballs seem to want to reify certain contributors as evil incarnate and I just don't buy it; economies are systems, and you can't look at an isolated part of the system and blame the behavior of the whole system on that part.
And I rather like my family, even though they go terribly overboard at Christmas time. Towards the end of November, to mid-January is when my first major depression of the season usually hits. So many Christmases when I'm supposed to be enjoying family and turkey and embarrassing family stories, I'm at home, hiding under my pillow, afraid to answer the phone, and feeling even guiltier for not answering it, knowing my family likely wonders where I am and if I'm okay or not, and why I haven't shown up for yet another Christmas. And knowing all this, I still can't get myself to call or answer the phone, so I just sink even deeper.
Some years that doesn't align that way, and I'm able to have a decent Christmas as planned, where I focus on family, as that's Christmas to me. But even if it's not, when I finally start to lose the blackness inside me and reconnect, and we're able to celebrate, and everybody has waited for me once again, I enjoy a guilt tinged Christmas with them, but it's still worth it. If anything, I truly realize how loved I really am at those times.
I don't know. I'm probably one of the most cynical people you'll meet, but Christmas just doesn't bother me. I rather like it. It's like pieces of my childhood projected forward in time.

What I love:
-The lights all over the trees
-The chill of the late night breeze with the thin clouds scudding across the night sky and the quiet calm during a gentle snow past midnight
-Holiday hot-chocolate blends
-Peppermint bark. Mmmm. <3
-Spiral cut glazed ham~
What I like:
-A BIT of snow on the ground
-The awesome lineup of video games and and peripherals for sale
-A low exposure to xmas songs
-Carolers. Hey, People willing to sing to me despite the freezing cold deserve to be appreciated. They're clearly genuinely happy and enjoying the holiday, it'd be a dick move to put a dampener on it just because they wanted to spread they enjoyment.
-Decorating the tree!
What I don't like:
-The guilt-tripping
-The bell ringers [ties in with the above]
-The commercials
What I fucking despise:
-Overexposure to the same xmas songs
-Xtian insistence that Yule has ANYTHING to do with their fairy tale
-Xtians bitching that we need to put the "Christ" back in "Christmas," as if it was their holiday to begin with
-THE WAR ON CHRISTMAS! Nuff said.
-It's cold.
-I hate the cold.
-No. I'm serious. I fucking despise the cold. Bad memories.
-Too much snow

All my children are grown, so now the commercialism is for the grand-kiddies and as Zen has stated, we purchase the noisiest toys we can find.

Boy your kids really must have pissed you off. Nice to have such a benign, traditional way to get even.
TRUE CONFESSIONS: I play Christmas music this time of year. Sappier the better. Sometimes I'm touched by the sincerity in the voice and words and, if I try real hard, I can avoid thinking how they really just want to abandon themselves to God. But I have no desire to see the inside of a church, give or receive gifts and cards, or to decorate a tree. Mostly I'm a humbug .. except for the schmaltzy music.

It starts even before Thanksgiving in America.
But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.

I've never understood why Christmas makes some atheists so miserable.
It's kinda pathetic and small-minded. We're a society of diverse faiths. Let's all accept one another. This year I'm making Kwanza cookies.
