Homosexuality: it's genetic expression, not genetics, that determines homosexuality

There's a set of distinctions that you're failing to make that have a big impact on this view: that 'sexuality personality' is composed of 3 parts:

1. physical sexuality - your 'default' position, who/what you're un/subconsciously attracted to
2. sexual identity - the label you apply to your sexuality, your social group identification ('hetero', 'bi', 'homo', 'a' etc.)
3. sexual behaviour - who you choose to have sex with

Physical sexuality is the 'genetically expressed' component the paper's talking about. It's not adjustable by nurture rather identity & behaviour are the parts which can (and do) change due to personal/social pressures.

Quote:Meaning, a person doesn`t get it`s sexuality handed over like car keys when it reaches puperty.
Actually that's a great analogy for physical sexuality!

Quote:Frankly: A persons sexuality also evolves out of that persons expiriences and out of the social\psychological influences under which that person stands. - Not only out of the genes it carries.
So, you've oversimplified here. Only sexual identity & behaviour are affected this way whilst physical sexuality is not.

Ben, do be aware that some genes can be activated (or deactivated) due to environmental causes well after birth.

Yes, for instance my 'talk-back-to-a-woman-that-seem-to-like-you-gene' is in a coma due to heavy heartbreaking. Any suggestions on how to re-active the gene? (alcohol doesn't work!).

Try to use the more generic 'talk-back-to-a-woman' gene...
If that doesn't work, then you still have the one you're using here, the 'talk-back-to-a-human'. Tongue

It's sickening that this discovery is as important as it is.

One of my atheist groups discussed the book by Richard Francis at a recent book club. I didn't read this selection, and my experience with that group is limited, but it sounds like a good place to start if you want to learn about epigenetics.

Ha! True. As with most things in biology, even those which are really complicated are never as simple as they seem Big Grin
