Data will always represent whatever side of the post you stand on in an argument like this.
Data can be argued to stand wherever you like, sure. Some countries have more (or less) success with gun regulations than others, I,ve already posted one of my favorite studies on the matter, go sniff it out, the authors considered a great many more countries...you know, to make sure the data was solid.

Butter and soda isn't designed to cause grievous injury.
Comparison failure.

Remember that great butter and soda massacre that killed 20+ people?
Me neither.

Sure do, some people call it an obesity epidemic, others call it heart disease, wouldn't wanna downplay that would we? To be only slightly less unfair, people massacre (and have massacred, and likely will continue to massacre) people for a great many reasons with a great many instruments. It's probably the massacring bit that needs to be addressed, since taking away one instrument only leads to the adoption of another.
A great many things weren't designed to cause grievous injury, but they manage nevertheless. Cars and gunpowder. What does it matter what something was designed to do, when referencing what it does?
Look, I'm pretty sure I've been in every one of these gun threads, numbers and studies have been posted, but discussion gets bowled over in favor of the "gun r bad" mantra. There's little left for me to do but poke fun honestly.

Little left but moving the goal post.
I only made a statement as to the purpose.
Whether that purpose is valid, invalid or degrees in between, is not stated.
I did not state "The myriad other secondary purposes of a gun are to ..."
I only stated the primary design goal of guns (weapon) -- to throw a projectile against a mass with the goal of causing grievous damage extending to death.

How many gun massacres in schools has Australia had since then?
And BTW we didn't "outlaw" guns, we just made it harder to get them.
And having restrictive gun laws in one state means fuck all if the state next door has loose gun laws. Which is why the US needs Federal laws, so that it is even across the country.

There is a bit of folk-law on how to catch a monkey, you put an apple in a bottle. The monkey grabs the apple, but the neck is too small for the monkey to pull its hand out while holding the apple, but it cannot let go of the apple, because it wants it; so the monkey stays with the bottle and thus we capture the monkey.
There is a moral to this story; you can be possessed by the thing you hold in your hand. I see people that like their guns, and come up with all sorts of excuses as to why they should have them, even though they know how damaging to people in general these things are.
The delight in weaponry is destroying those that love it first, but like the monkey they do not have the intelligence to see it.

There's also another bit of folk-lore about two young boys who were arguing over who's barn had the largest rats...Boy #1 says, "Come to my barn, the rats there are as big as cats!"...as both boys stood watching the barn, a huge cat sized rat runs out...Boy #1 shouts, "Did you see that?!"...to which Boy #2 responds, "Aww, that's nothin'. Come to my barn. We have rats a whole lot bigger than that!"...then as both stood outside Boy #2's barn, a huge rat, larger than any ever seen, runs out....Boy #2 shouts, "Did you see that?!".....to which Boy #1 responds, both eyes tightly closed and shaking his head, "Nope! I didn't see a thing!"....which is how the left is naively focused only on guns, refusing to consider or even address the motivating influences on those who commit acts of violence.
