I have always liked the smell of tobacco and tobacco smoke...something mindlessly contemplative about it .... any way I am seriously considering taking up a pipe. I'll smoke less and would not be able to smoke in public, I get my contemplative moments at home in my backyard so everyone wins. (Perth is a very windy place and it is rare that tobacco smoke goes into the house through closed doors)

I have a high sense of smell, and taste and can agree with the "licking an ashtray" But with everything there is always a down side.

Heh, to me the smell/taste of coffee and cigarettes of my bf is the sexiest smell/taste to me.

I had one friend years ago who was the only man I'd term as a "sexy redneck". For some reason, cigarettes on him smelled uber-sexy, combined with coffee, mouthwash, and whatever he used as aftershave. It just smelled like "man" to me. This was years ago though and I've gotten more and more sensitive in the intervening time, so I would bet I wouldn't tolerate it now.

The sad thing is, I do like the smell of pipe tobacco. I can still identify the sort my grandfather used. I just can't tolerate the burning of it.

Ya know what is the worst??

Here the environment is against asthmatics. We have sand and pollen and dust and bushfire smoke (I swear I can smell a bushfire 50 kms away up wind!). And the smell of our water here in Perth smells of a 10% solution of chlorine ... my genetics are against me and let's not start about the amount of fly-sprays and insect deterrents that start a coughing fit! A small amount of tobacco smoke is nothing. In an enclosed space is another matter though. And that bloody cat from across the road insists that my front yard under my bedroom window is the only place for it's latrine. Dogs? forget it.

I don't like cigarettes... I like 'em hand rolled. The tobacco tastes and smells much better. Although, I really don't smoke much at all now, just the occasional rolly here and there. Smoking weed put me off it. Tobacco just becomes a bit shitty after smoking le good shtuff.
