Don't have to read The Bible to reject Christianity. Right?

If you want someone to stay a Christian don't let them read the bible. Just have the preacher read bits to them at Sunday service. Letting them have their own copy to take home is just asking for it.

They might actually start reading it. Then Christianity is screwed. Lost another one!

Lol..Good point. I just got back in town from Kentucky. I went with my girlfriend to watch a traditional Catholic wedding. I got to see a full mast right in the middle of it. I was having a blast. The priest entered the church like a wrestler, intro music and entourage included. One of his posse members was carrying a giant Jesus on a stick, the other was parading an oversized bible. The church was chanting and singing until the priest got to his pulpet. Then after opening to a page in the middle of the bible and holding it in the air for 30 seconds, he announced that The Lord was among us. I have a hard time believing that my girlfriend and I were the only ones skeptical of that claim. Sooo funny.

I know alot of people who became atheists after reading religious books, most of them from the protestant north.

But growing up in a catholic erea most people I know here became atheist due to the revolting behavior of the catholic church in Europe.

The head-scratcher part is how so many Theists can claim to be "champions of logic" while simultaneously conducting an all-out assault on it! It seems as though it would be more apparent. Those Jesus-blinders are pretty effective.

"Logic" works great unless you start with a flawed premise like, oh, I don't know, "there's a god who created the whole fucking universe and he really loves me as long as I kiss his ass."

If you start using "logic" from that point you can go anywhere.... and still be nowhere!

I'd like to attend a Catholic Mass. I've never been to one. If I have to go to another protestant service though I'm bringing a cyanide pill just in case I need a quick escape.

Their entire religion is built up around being unquestionably right just for following it, while also throwing in as many "personal relationship with god" platitudes and appeals to faith as necessary to turn the entire exercise subjective as all get out. To that kind of person, the word logic has a different meaning than it does to everyone else.

It simply means, "What I think, because god has acknowledged what I think as right."

While you do not have to read anything to reject a religion. It helps with your crediblity when arguing their doctrine to know and understand it. To many times atheists make fools of themselves because they fail to recognize linguistic, archeological, and cultural influences that can affect meanings, verbiage and over all context. Regardless of what “pro-atheist” pseudo studies they make. Those particular sectors of their religion must respected in regards to basic understanding. Just like people like Ray Comfort who do not understand science. You look just as foolish if you do not understand ancient doctrines. I mean this in all good advice, I am used archeology and their own contextual meanings to show biblical errors on their part.

Why does that remind me of that scene in the Life of Brian where all the people desperate to follow a religion were chasing Brian and arguing over his "sign?"

"We must gather shoes!"
"Follow the gourd!"

You're not missing much. When you hear all the people respond in unison to something the priest says and recite prayers, just think of the sheep in Orwell's Animal Farm.
Christian apologetics is the art of rolling a dog turd in sugar and selling it as a donut.
