Did They Not Pray Hard Enough

show me. Book Chapter and verse.

Da fuck? You don't agree with this? What the hell, Drich?

No, I'm not playing this game anymore. I've given you what you've asked for in the past, and you shit all over it. Find someone else to play with because I'm bowing out of this lunacy.

Clearly, very clearly you like the word clearly.

Clearly, it is another win, as my conclusion is based from the well know definitions of words used in the english language which clearly shows that the verse contains no disclaimer of what can be asked for. You, on the other hand, use the "because I said so" argument without pause and then back down when I press you for an explanation that fits what the scripture ACTUALLY says.

Your sarcasm is a poorly veiled excuse for not having a fucking leg to stand on.

In order to do this as stated we must first have the right heart and/or mind set.
If we do not have it we can ask god to help us get it.
If we don't have the right mindset to ask, we should... ask?
Quote:If you were invited to meet the world leaders at a grand black tie ball/dinner. would you dress the part or would you go unshowered, unbathed, and wearing your jam jams? Power demands compliance.
If I was trying to get in touch with a world leader by exchanging notes or calling on the phone I would take a cordial tone, yes. If the world leader on the phone told me that he would hang up unless I got down on my knees, things would get a bit awkward.

I'm not being invited to god's black tie affair in heaven, I'm running around the schoolyard trying to figure out where he's hiding. If he presents himself and it turns out that he's a supreme intellect of immeasurable power who has a good enough explanation for why things are so screwed up, I would be willing to humble myself.
Quote:Belief in Christ enough to take Him up on what He said do.

The vast majority of people from the time of Christ till now either did not have a book or could not read it, so what do you think?
I think that it's bizarre that anyone would worship a person whose identity and personality are only to be discovered in a book that most of his followers either couldn't read or consider to be of secondary importance to simply believing in the person who is only to be known through the book.
Quote:One can not truly be 'free' unless first he knows he has been bound.
I agree with this, although for me the freedom came when I finally let go of religious belief.
Quote:God reveals Himself, make no mistake. One simply must humble himself to receive such a revelation on His terms and not our own.
We're going in circles with this, as I figured we would. This is the third or fourth time you've reminded me that god can be found, if only we search the right way, a way for which there are no specifics.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

RE: Did They Not Pray Hard Enough
Let's have a recap of Drich's posts:

1. Prayer is not a formal wishing ceremony. It's not a way for Christians to change their lots in life, and it is certainly not a way to change the mind of God. Prayer is a tool used to change the mind of the one who is praying to seek and accept God's will and to make it their own.

"But people pray for stuff they want all the time."

2. You're not supposed to pray for things you want.

"The Lord's Prayer asks God for food."

3. That's something God wants you to want, so it's okay.

"So what you're saying is it's okay to formally wish for stuff through prayer?"

This is just the easy stuff on the surface. If you go back through all his posts and compile all the things he has thus far said about prayer, you would come back with an incoherent, self-contradictory jumble of utter nonsense.

I figured. I thought maybe if he took a moment to reflect upon the various non-coinciding arguments he made in this thread, he'd be forced to admit to himself that he's just making it up as he goes.

The only ones in these debates that can admit when they're wrong are atheists, but that's only because we're not afraid of what we don't know.

RE: Did They Not Pray Hard Enough
Since Drich and the others are such good christians and have a personal (one-way) relationship with jesus, why can't they pray for god to give them the knowledge and the ability to answer the Atheist's questions well enough to convert us by their force of clarity and truth?

Why can't Drich and the others pray to jesus and tell us more about jesus's time on earth than is recorded in the bible?
Why can't he tell us what jesus was doing for the lost 20 years of his life, or even tell us the names of the true authors of the gospels and where they lived and wrote? Why can't Drich and the others pray and tell us where the Arc of the covenant is located?

Why would Jesus not answer Drich's prayers for this info?

Because Jesus is too busy helping his favorite football team and helping a house mom find her lost keys.
