Federal Government Shutdown

Because, according to Randian philosophy, if you're poor, it means you're a failure as a human being and we don't reward failure. The best thing to do for you is let you starve so you have the incentive to do better.

Such is my take on it, anyway, but anyone can correct me if I have it wrong.

Whining about the effects of the government shutdown they caused, I see. I've heard this before. Last 4th of July, I sat at a business lunch where one conservative was belly-aching about how Obama cut the air show that usually flew over Louisville during the afternoon, in the run up to the fireworks display. These people are fine with cutting education and food stamps but cry at their country clubs whenever a relatively frivolous expense they enjoy is cut.

Now, in a surprise move, when you completely shut the federal government down, all the federal parks close. What, you think these places run by the ectoplasmic powers of our founding fathers?

However, I am glad to see that they're at least honest enough to wave Confederate Flags. These people fancy themselves the neo-Tea Party. They're more like the neo-Confederacy.

So... Are we going to default?
I think that was the plan from day 1. I'm waiting for the default to cause global economic chaos and the Tea-Party responds by saying, "See! Look what Obamacare did!!"
Thoughts?

It's very difficult to understand the minds of people who are insane. The Tea-Brained are difficult to predict.

I really think that's the plan. Shut down the government, cause it to default on its debts, blame Obama, and pray it doesn't backfire on them (which it almost certainly will; people are already blaming them for it and it's not even happened yet.)

My understanding is there is an argument over when the default will occur, as in there is no defined date (although it'd be within about a month no matter what it seems). At this rate though it seems inevitable.

At least the majority is putting the blame where it's due. Especially independents which is where it counts come election time. The big question is whether or not we'll remember this in a year...
Even China has chimed in on the default, granted they hold a lot of our debt and would be disproportionately screwed. But a default would be disastrous to the global economy, not just our own.
Can this just stop now?

But if we don't do something by the 17th, there will be a pronounced negative effect starting that day, simply from the anticipation of the US not paying the bills, which wouldn't happen until November 1st, I believe.

Yep, I'm waiting till the 17th to know if I'm gonna be homeless or notTongue

I'm applying for a job this week actually. I'm on 3 immunosuppressants and have to go to the doctor and for labs weekly and get my treatments at the hospital regularly, so I doubt I'll keep the job long.. I'm just hoping I don't get sick from being around people like that. I try to avoid being in crowds..
If I were to create self aware beings knowing fully what they would do in their lifetimes, I sure wouldn't create a HELL for the majority of them to live in infinitely! That's not Love, that's sadistic. Therefore a truly loving god does not exist!

Quote:The sin is against an infinite being (God) unforgiven infinitely, therefore the punishment is infinite.

Dead wrong.  The actions of a finite being measured against an infinite one are infinitesimal and therefore merit infinitesimal punishment.

Quote:Some people deserve hell.

I say again:  No exceptions.  Punishment should be equal to the crime, not in excess of it.  As soon as the punishment is greater than the crime, the punisher is in the wrong.

I know this sounds horrible, but would it give freedom a fighting chance if things just fell apart?

Kind of like shaking the etch-a-sketch?
I don't think so. I can see where that would be tempting, but the chaos would be immense.
I spoke with a neighbor who works with Congress, he's currently furloughed, he puts the chances of default at 50-50 Undecided I don't like those odds.
Oh no, MissLuckie! Sad I don't even know what to say... That's just awful.
