If Ard means the earth's surface, and not just the land, that includes the ground under the oceans. That is part of the surface despite being under water. In this case that verse would be wrong.
Or did you mis-speak and mean to say Ard is just the land, and not the earth's surface?
Yes you're right , thank you for enlightening me .
Oh god .... What are you snapping at? I was asking you a question, not "enlightening" you.
Does Ard mean the land, or does it mean the earth's surface? It's a basic question, no need to get hostile.

In the verse , its used for earth's surface , does not mean the same meaning "land" in your English . So you could understand easly if there was such a usage for the word "land" as in Arabic .
Saying like "the creatures in heaven and land" . Spelling of this word in the English language "the creatures in heaven and earth" . But not the same in Arabic , you can use word "ard" to describe "earth surface" .

There isn't even one translation in the online quran that says lowest.
Quote:Sahih International
In the nearest land. But they, after their defeat, will overcome.
Muhsin Khan
In the nearer land (Syria, Iraq, Jordan, and Palestine), and they, after their defeat, will be victorious.
Pickthall
In the nearer land, and they, after their defeat will be victorious
Yusuf Ali
In a land close by; but they, (even) after (this) defeat of theirs, will soon be victorious-
Shakir
In a near land, and they, after being vanquished, shall overcome,
Dr. Ghali
In the more adjacent (i.e., more easy to reach; the Levant) (part) of the earth. And even after their being overcome, they will overcome (the others)
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.

No, you have not. You have given me no evidence. You have given me information but not what you think you have. Give me evidence. Stuff that I can examine and verify.

Muslim scholars had translated it as "closest" or "nearest" , this word also means that metaphorically . Quranic language includes metaphors in some verses . Old scholars had translated this "nearest" because they thought that this is another metaphor , people in old times didnt know the place was world's lowest point .

Try to be objective and research if you want to learn . I'm not different from you and Quran is a book open for everyone , you dont need to be "scholar" .

I write a book and say 2 + 2 = 5. My book fails. Then comes the believer saying NO, it's a METAPHOR! It means that God is ONE. You see, 2 + 2 + 1(God) = 5
God is ONE.

Sorry, it will be a minute before I can stop laughing at the MASSIVE HYPOCRISY here.
You are aware the the Bible is open to you, and so are the other religious books. So are all the findings of science; there is a multitude of very good literature that would enhance and broaden your understanding of the world.
Out of interest, do you think that evolution is true? How about the 'big bang' and the way the universe developed? I can suggest some good books on these subjects if you need more information.
For your interest, I have actually read most of the Quran. And the Bible. Both are wholly unconvincing and make outrageous claims that are totally unsubstantiated.
