I know where to find a Roman emperor, an egyptian god... but no pharisee... sorry.
Besides... my price would be a bit higher than that... throw in 3 pieces of gold and one of gold-pressed latinum (for the future interstellar exchanges). Tongue

Or y'all could have the infinite riches of Forum Heaven by just not fucking crucifying me.

A little patience, apostles. Tongue

I've been told not to eat mushrooms that I find growing on the ground.
I believe they'd be bad for me.
However, I am aware that some mushrooms are not bad... I just lack the capability to tell the good from the bad, so I just leave them be when I find them on the ground.
And this has been exacerbated when my father told me a story of when he ate some mushrooms and, luckily, was near a hospital where he could have a thorough internal rinsing.... not pleasant.

So, the best we can do is provide these people with the information to tell the good mushrooms apart from the bad ones and hope they learn and acquire the ability to pick their own mushrooms, instead of living forever in fear of mushrooms.

(did I take this metaphor a bit too far?...)

So now you eat ANY old mushroom that crosses your plate?

I didn't think so ....... SOME information is wisdom. What TGN is spouting is just pathetic plagiarism at best. Mindlessness at worst.

This is my thinking.

Oh my!! No... I eat The good shrooms that have been cultivated and picked by those in the know.
Much like I take scientific results obtained by those in the know...
Damn this is a good metaphor! Tongue

Perhaps you could define for us as laypersons, what does not constitute science.

What?

Is so!

Well, for example, evolutionists sometimes make the claim that evolution has been proved beyond any doubt. I'm talking about the sort of evolution where rocks become humans. So I don't consider that kind of evolution to be scientific fact. Also when someone makes the claim that there definitely is no God, and then gives "scientific proof" of this. Yet there is no science that can prove the non existence of God. As He exists apart from science; He is supernatural:

"As you do not know what is the way of the wind,
Or how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child,
So you do not know the works of God who makes everything." (Ecc 11:5)

See, that's what I mean by throwing the baby out with the bath water. Evolution makes no claims about the origin of life. Evolution is the adaptation of existing forms of life, over time.

You're rejecting accepted scientific theory (like Gravity) based on someone else's ignorant announcements from a pulpit.

Here's a google definition:

"ev·o·lu·tion
the process by which different kinds of living organisms are thought to have developed and diversified from earlier forms during the history of the earth.
synonyms: Darwinism, natural selection"

Here's further information:

http://evolution.berkeley.edu/evolibrary...faq.php#a1

Scientific proof of God's existence or non-existence is impossible by definition. Science makes no claims about the divine, individuals with beliefs do.

You might as well type "I don't believe in Computer Science. It's just a theory, so I don't consider it to be a scientific fact" on a forum from your Smart Phone.

I have to say I do believe in abiogenesis. I believe God literally made man out of the dust of the ground. I also believe the Lord Jesus Christ rose from the dead, giving life to His dead body.

So, now the question becomes: do you accept that evolution happens now?

Quote:Also I'd like to ask, at what point have I berated anyone? To be honest it seems it has been others who have been berating me. Though if you show where it is you feel I have berated anyone I will apologise to that person.

Getting bombarded with bible verses is... well, it's basically getting beaten over the head with stuff that most of us already know, and have decided is untrue. It's an ineffective tactic, though I will give you credit for being gentler than most.

I believe if God wanted to turn a flea into an elephant He could do it. Absolutely. Though I do not believe, even for a second, that life evolved in the way that Darwin theorised.

Can I ask how you believe life began?

Also if you want to use quotes from outside sources it won't annoy me, and I definitely won't feel like I'm being berated. Even though I will definitely hold it as untrue if it contradicts the Bible.

The problem with comparing the bible and scientific peer-reviewed articles, is that the articles are reliable, valid and accurate and (in most cases) demonstrably true, whereas the bible is not. The bible is made of translations of copies of copies of translations of copies of translations by anonymous authors. On many occasions it defies reality.

How do I think life began? I don't know. Scientists think it could be abiogenesis, or maybe some kind of seeding. Christians think that god magicked us here out of dirt.
I go for the answer with more explanatory power.

'You can have all the faith you want in spirits, and the afterlife, and heaven and hell, but when it comes to this world, don't be an idiot. Cause you can tell me you put your faith in God to put you through the day, but when it comes time to cross the road, I know you look both ways.' - Dr House

“Young earth creationism is essentially the position that all of modern science, 90% of living scientists and 98% of living biologists, all major university biology departments, every major science journal, the American Academy of Sciences, and every major science organization in the world, are all wrong regarding the origins and development of life….but one particular tribe of uneducated, bronze aged, goat herders got it exactly right.” - Chuck Easttom

I think the most important difference is that we can "update science" when we do get it wrong. Humanity has "known" a lot of things that were wrong in the past, but we can correct that as we learn more. If your religious beliefs are given by a perfect and all-knowing god then they cannot be changed without seriously damaging the foundation of the entire belief system. The best you can do is claim that you "misunderstood what god was telling" you, but that only gets you so far.
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

-Stephen Jay Gould
