I would however like to know who is typically more violent. Yeah, nobody can figure out the answer to that. Atheists can be more tolerant in some areas but it really depends on the atheist or in some cases the Atheist regime in control.
Christians don't follow the rules. They aren't even suppose to judge.

well, i want to shift the question to, "who killed more people THEISTS or atheists?"
why? because ever since theism/paganism (or anything that has a god involved) was started, there has always been deaths under theism and even under the secularists. but if we are sticking to stuff like the crusades, holocaust, and the salem witch trials... i would say theism has a bigger number perhaps because whether you are in the military as an atheist, the purpose of the battle could be religion. and it wouldnt be christians killing others but simply the reason behind the genocide would be a better question...

I don't care who killed more I didn't count the bodies nor do I know who is atheist and who isn't. It does not impact truth of atheism in any way.
However give crusaders better weapons and more victims and they will kill 1000 billion if they could. Bodies are just a matter of historical chance of who has more victims and better guns.

The purpose of war is power and religion is a convenient scapegoat.
The question should be, what's been the excuse for most killing. Religion surely.

It's a valid question, but contains a logical landmine. There is an implied post hoc ergo propter hoc error, that because theists / atheists killed more it was because they did so BECAUSE they were atheists / theists.

I have to wonder how many of the people were actually atheists though. I mean after the fall of communism the churches enjoyed a massive resurgence and I cant imagine they all decided to convert and join only because communism ended. More likely they were Christians all the time.
Anyway I'm not saying that atheists didn't kill people, I'm just saying I dont think it's quite so clear cut and it's unfair to blame all the deaths on atheists. Or atheism since atheism is not communism.

Christians kill in the name of christianity.
Atheists don't kill in the name of atheism.

See the bold this was deffo a religious persecution on the part of the croats.
And of course throughout its history chrsitianity has persecuted the jews, with one inventive English sailor during Edward the firsts reign charging the jews for passage away from England and dumping them in tidal spur halfway between England and France then inviting them to swim the rest of the way. Jews didn't return to England until Oliver Cromwell invited them back in.
Then you have all the many and disparate sects of christianity fighting against their big rivals, other sects of christianity going back to the Goths during the roman empire, Perseution of witches and anyone else they didn't like at the time and you end up with a religion which looks a lot like the intolerant blood dripped religion that Islam looks like now.
