RE: Yes I pick on all religions.
So Brian, let's try and get an answer...

What evidence do I need to believe in God?

Any evidence will do for you. Doesn't matter if its not reliable or testable or demonstrable or repeatable. Just as long as it feels good.

Nope, you already have your "answer". And like everyone else with a god claim none of you have the balls to bring your claims into a neutral lab.

Now when you are willing to do that, and have your data confirmed then we can talk. Until then it is up to you to do your own homework.

Why don't you just give it up and admit you have no evidence and admit it is merely what you like believing. That would be an honest answer.

RE: Yes I pick on all religions.
What I firmly state Brian, is that there cannot possibly be evidence of a physical nature.

This is logically demanded by the nature of God as it is defined.

You, on the other hand, demand that I bring evidence. When I ask you how or what, you go silent, and try to ask me to provide what is logically impossible. Your own delusion.

But get this... You then say that I'm illogical.

I don't believe in God with no reason. Did you notice that word? Reason. The same process every human uses to understand the world. Including you.

Delude yourself all you like. Your empty accusations are meaningless.

If you claim that your god has effects on this universe, then there will be a physical trail from those effects.

Just like cosmic particles leave trails in a cloud chamber. YOu don't see the particle itself, but the effects are testable.

Yeah, define your god to not leave physical evidence for its existence, and lo and behold, it lives up to your definition.

I'm shocked!

Quote:You, on the other hand, demand that I bring evidence. When I ask you how or what, you go silent, and try to ask me to provide what is logically impossible. Your own delusion.

Then don't claim you god effects the workings of this universe, then you don't have to provide evidence for those that doubt his existence.

You just have bad reasons.

Quote:The same process every human uses to understand the world. Including you.

For existential claims, our process is to evaluate demonstrable evidence using reasoned argument and valid/sound logic. That doesn't quite sound like the process you use.

Quote:What evidence do I need to believe in God?

Lets turn that question around.

So, what evidence would you accept for the existence of Shiva? Or one of the other gods you don't believe exist?

You'd believe if you just opened your heart" is a terrible argument for religion. It's basically saying, "If you bias yourself enough, you can convince yourself that this is true." If religion were true, people wouldn't need faith to believe it -- it would be supported by good evidence.

If you cannot demonstrate the existence of something then you are not justified in believing it.

RE: Yes I pick on all religions.
All of reality is evidence Simon. Go test it, it's real. Could you prove God and destroy all religions that say he isn't testable in one fell swoop? I'll let you figure that one out. Wolfie and Brian: I'll let you guys off Wink

Those problems don't need to be existential to fall outside of the realms of the scientific method Simon. Love is a similar type of question. It's a rational process that leads you to be convinced of it. Belief is the same process: evaluate information and ascertain the correct answer. Depending upon the quality of the information and the veracity of your conclusions, you come to a decision. You arrogantly state that I'm wrong. Yet you have no way of knowing either of the above about me. Taking your failure of logic there would lead me to suppose that your deductive skills are wanting. Still I don't accuse you of drawing an incorrect conclusion given your sources.
