I'm glad you see it that way. This is the smartest thing I have heard you say in a while.

I'm not actually quite as stupid as you seem to think I am.

They don't need to. The right is openly contemptuous of Latinos. They want walls and border guards to keep them out. They want to round them up and ship them out. They want to make English an official language out of spite for the language Latinos speak. They use Latinos to make white people fear for their jobs and their culture. The racism is out in the open and always on display. The biggest concession they have made to Latinos is to have the wherewithal to not call them spics and beaners when the cameras are on.

All Democrats need to do to convince Latinos to vote for them is to continue to treat them as if they were human beings of equal worth. That is the reason non-white minorities vote Democratic in overwhelming numbers every time. It's why I vote Democratic, every time. The Democrats have their flaws, to be sure, but only idiots vote for people who are openly hateful and contemptuous of them.

I am a white male, and I understand that to the people in control of the Republican Party, I am just trash at worst, a tool to be used at best. I am a working taxpayer who has most of what I produce taken from me by bosses who are forced, by law, to distribute a little of it back to me. Like almost all other people in America, regardless of color, I am just a machine whose only use is to generate money for the wealthy. I have to do this because I have no realistic alternative options at present. I would never vote for a Republican again, because as a working class white person, I'm not stupid enough to vote for a party that hates everything about me except my skin color and gender.

RE: The New York Choke Hold Case
So a few years ago I traveled through Columbia and I noticed an interesting thing. None of the police appeared to be older than me. (I'm 30) I discovered that the Columbians (Who had a police force many many times more corrupt than ours) had simply fired almost the entire police force in the country and hired newer younger, more educated people. This broke the cycle of corrupt people hiring their corrupt friends and changed the whole system. I feel like the racism and status quo that so obviously exists in the American police system needs a similar massive over haul. We need to start from scratch, not do the normal wimpy modifications that are so typical of American politics. Keep in mind we all bear some responsibility in the continued police outrages. Our taxes are the ones who paid this asshole who choked a man to death and our unwillingness to do anything about it is why it continues. If police reform became an issue amongst the voting, middle class white people in this country, then police corruption would end relatively quickly.

I heard about that, actually. It's a bit weird to believe you could make crime drop drastically by firing most of your police force, when you grow up believing police are the good guys. Instead they're just as human and corruptible as anyone.

Is that supposed to make us feel better, though. It doesn't even seem to slow the cops down.

It certainly feels like a case of Freedom Theater: "Look at how free you are, you are keeping your watchful eye on the police and ... " dah-da-dah-da-dah-dah-dee-doo.

Any time a government official takes an action that results in the death of a civilian, there should be a trial, in a different jurisdiction. If the death is justified, make a motion to dismiss based on the circumstances. But let a judge make the decision.
