So how, exactly, does God know that She's NOT a brain in a vat?

Luke: You don't believe in the Force, do you?
Han Solo: Kid, I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other, and I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen *anything* to make me believe that there's one all-powerful Force controlling everything. 'Cause no mystical energy field controls *my* destiny. It's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense. Obviously you have a computer. Satellites wouldn't even be up there if it wasn't for space travel. The internet wouldn't work, computers and phones not being up to the standards they are today. And that's just scratching the surface. (December 13, 2014 at 7:56 pm)abaris Wrote:(December 13, 2014 at 12:18 pm)C4RM5 Wrote: To me both recteatinv the ark and space travel is a waste of money. Sorry I am referring to the one they landed on the comet or the multiple ones that have landed on mars and the moon RE: Raiders of the lost tax break.

I agree that some of it seems like a waste of money, from what I know about it. But I can't give any weight to my opinion unless I learn a lot more about it. Understand before you criticise. My opinion is next to worthless as it stands as I know it has no good foundation, so I wouldn't expect anyone to take it seriously.

I absolutely don't agree.
The missions to mars give valuable insights into other planets. Mars is the first planet we ever started to explore and even now with so few missions it has pushed planetary science far ahead. The one to the comet gives insights into what makes up a comet. We didn't have that before and it's a giant step for science. To learn more about the universe sourrounding us is never wasted money. Unproportionate military budgets on the other hand might fit the bill nicely.
And there is a potential danger of religion: if god exists, he'll tell us all we need to know, and therefore why bother trying to learn anything else? This cave is cozy enough, and there are a few hours of daylight to allow us to read these stone tablets containing the wisdom of god... what more do we need?
"Well, evolution is a theory. It is also a fact. And facts and theories are different things, not rungs in a hierarchy of increasing certainty. Facts are the world's data. Theories are structures of ideas that explain and interpret facts. Facts don't go away when scientists debate rival theories to explain them. Einstein's theory of gravitation replaced Newton's in this century, but apples didn't suspend themselves in midair, pending the outcome. And humans evolved from ape- like ancestors whether they did so by Darwin's proposed mechanism or by some other yet to be discovered."

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.

I was wondering the same thing. If C4 here has some crystal ball on the matter, then I'm sure NASA would appreciate being notified.
