Gun Control

It's not about defense, it's about these fun little machines that look cool but can kill.

2. More guns will not solve gun violence. More guns will mean more gun violence. Adding more problems in no way will lead you to a solution.

3. The government has weapons far beyond what any citizen can access legally. They also have trained forces who have killed and will kill again. Using your little AR 15 to stop a cruise missile aimed towards your head is completely futile.

4. Gun control worked in Australia. In the 10 years before they banned the guns, there were 16 massacres. Since then (1996) there hasn't been a single massacre.

So why do these people decide to stay indoctrinated? The NRA is one of the scariest lobbyists out there. The NRA not only has donations from crazy paranoid conservative nuts, they also get money from firearms corporations.

Anyways, I would personally argue that firearms only instill fear and make it feel like a war zone. Any civilized intelligent human being would use rational discourse to solve a problem. These are not civilized, not intelligent, and their ability to have empathy is far from human. Just think about it: these people would rather have children die at schools than have their toys taken from them.

Sick inhumane bastards.

1. -Agreed.
2. -Agreed.
3. -Insurgents the world over would like to have a word with you...although - granted, the weapon of choice is the ak-series, and "re-appropriated" unexploded ords.
4. -And for 16 massacres, the government exerted quite a bit of power.  Whether or not it worked has to do with what you hope to achieve.  I thought we were talking about curbing gun violence..not trying to hedge our bet against the odd nutjob?  16 massacres may be a big effect,in australia..I don't know.  Here - it's a drop in tjhe bucket...statistically insignificant...as those types of crimes are not in any way a meaningful portion of our overall numbers.  Sounds good though.  I'd prefer a solution that both allowed me to own my property - especially considering that I've never, personally, massacred any schoolchildren...but that -also- reduces gun crimes.  Something along the lines of....oh...enforcing our gun laws -rather than a ban.  We' have to enforce the ban anyway, so it's the same work in either case.....

Do they not?

Here in America, requiring such a thing would be regarded as infringing on people's right to own guns.  Uneducated people have a right to own guns, according to the gun nut interpretation of our Second Amendment, that totally ignores the part about being part of a "well regulated militia."

We have know-nothing, shit-for-brains people with guns here.  And, of course, intelligent, well educated people may own guns also, if they so choose.

You must be some kind of commie foreigner, who would want people to have training before having a right to a gun!

RE: Gun Control
Right, they just can't use them (even ones own home and property is not a free gun zone) - unless they go through safety training. People -do- think that this is infringement upon their rights, I, personally - don't.

-Not that we enforce any regulations or laws to that effect, regardless of their existence......you pretty much have to volunteer to be under scrutiny..like with a drivers license. You only have to take the test if you make yourself known...lol.

I think it's absolutely ridiculous that people should have the right to own a gun without first demonstrating they know how to handle it safely at least.

Well, your opinion doesn't count, you commie pinko foreigner!

If you had a proper superpower education, you might think differently.  Or you could be one of those dirty commies who is infiltrating our country and trying to take away our god-given rights!  If you are going to advocate sanity and reason, there is no place for you here.

My opinion certainly doesn't count while I don't have a gun Tongue

I don't think I've ever actually even seen a real gun. I think I would scream like a little girl if I ever did and run off down the road, presumably to some hilarious music.

Can I give you guys some more propaganda in favor of Portugal? Big Grin

Around here, you need a permit to own a weapon.
And, on top of that, you need a special permit to carry it out of your property, in public.

I don't know what's required to get such permits, but I'm sure it involves, at least, a psych evaluation and background check.

To my mind, they are similar to driving permits, as both a gun and a car (hmmm, 3 letter words) can be used to kill people.
Around here, in order to get a driver's permit, you need to take, at least, 30 classes on the law about driving - what the signs mean, when to use certain lights, etc... and 30 driving classes with a qualified instructor.
Even so, we find many road warriors around...

RE: Gun Control
Being a proper American, I learned to shoot before I learned to drive.  Occasionally, I am annoyed that they have the wrong sound effects with a gun in a movie, or confuse a revolver with a semiautomatic weapon, or do some other thing that isn't right or fit with the world.  Here is one that really annoys me:  When you shoot someone with a hand-held gun, the person hit does not magically fly backwards.  That is just stupid Hollywood nonsense.  People drop more or less straight down, if you hit them well enough to take them down.  (Think of the physics of the matter just a tiny bit, and you will understand this.)

In my case, though, I learned a bit about gun safety before a gun was in my hand.  One of the basics is this:  Never point it at anyone you do not want to kill.  Even if the gun is "unloaded."

I thought it was "never don't be pointing your gun at the person you're talking to because they are probably a terrorist"? Tongue

I used to have one of those plastic ghostbuster proton packs as a kid. Actually, I better check I took it off..

You Portuguese are a bunch of sissies!  Here in American we give almost every idiot a license to drive, and they don't need to take any classes first.  All they have to do is take an easy multiple-choice written test, followed by an easy driving test.  And if they fail, they can try again and again and again and...  Of course, the exact details of the requirements vary by state, but I think this is pretty much the way it is in all of them.  The fact that people kill each other with their cars is not a deterrent for us.  Killing each other helps keep the population in check, and helps weed out the really stupid, as you can occasionally read about some moron killing himself with his own car, in a single car accident.   And so we also let nearly every idiot have a gun as well.  The fact that people kill each other with their guns is not a deterrent for us.  Killing each other just helps keep the population in check, and helps weed out the really stupid, as you can occasionally read about some moron shooting and killing himself with his own gun.  You don't get that happening so much in Portugal because you keep guns out of the hands of most morons.

So, here in America, having a gun is similar to having a car, in that almost anyone can have either one, except that you don't need a license for a gun, depending on where in America (the commie-influenced jurisdictions require licenses) and the type of gun we are talking about.  See:
