Why Would You Worship?
#1
Why Would You Worship?
This is the fourth thread in which I ask theists very simple questions that deserve very simple answers. The last one was How Does It Feel? This thread is only for Christians to answer, because these questions are more relevant for them.

The questions I propose to you are:
  1. Is God good?
  2. Why?
  3. Do you base your opinion more on the Old Testament or the New?
  4. Why?
  5. Is there any bible verse that might remotely contradict your answer for question #1?
  6. Why might I disagree with you?
Thanks!

The last question is the most interesting. Why have you singled out Christianity? You're just picking a fight.

Are you joking? Humor doesn't always come across so well in forums

Why would a god need to be worshiped?
Every Sunday, millions of people telling you how wonderful you are, over and over again... what kind of small minded god is this?
The meek shall inherit the Earth, the rest of us will fly to the stars.

Yeah, I made a whole thread asking the exact question some time ago and got pretty much no answer. "You'll be sorry otherwise" seems to be about it. It's clearly a human in a god's clothes if it has anything to gain by people worshipping it.

I think that it would be an interesting to find out why people feel the need to worship a god but I don't think that theists can have that discussion. If they start examining why they need a god then they might discover that they really don't need religion after all.

Many theists see and justify worshipping as "thanking" god for giving them a good life and such. Not as "trying to be on the good side lest they be eternally tortured" way.

How much thanks is proportionate to the amount of thought and effort God put into creating everything?

Seems more like being scared about it being taken away than actually being thankful. Superstitious thinking can keep you trapped: "If I stop worshipping now, something bad will happen to me!"

Exactly. The reason we thank people is that we recognise that they have expended some effort and given up money/time etc into doing something for us.

This doesn't apply to an omnipotent being.

And only a tiny, tiny percentage (if not 0) of people are actually correctly worshiping the One True God (assuming there is one, and not none nor 2 or more)

(and further assuming any God would not be counted as a fraction somehow)
