First, you're fucking dead wrong. How cute that you think you know what other people have said to me. I've been told numerous times, and been preached to numerous times, that Islam is a religion of peace, and that ISIS aren't Muslims, and that it's wrong to criticise Muslims. So do tell me more about how "no one is telling me not to criticise Islam". And your little qualifying addendum of "that you should listen to" is bollocks. Who are you, or anyone for that matter, to tell me who I should and should not listen to.

As for your speculation about my motivations, I'm posting in this thread because I've got Muslim friends and a background of having lived in Muslim friends for five years, and quite frankly, I tire of Western presumptions that tar entire groups of people. If you don't like it, tough shit, kid.

I don't know how exactly someone can just announce to all Muslims that they are the new leader and that what they say about the Quran goes. The fact that people are busy slaughtering each other over different interpretations doesn't give me hope that they'll buy it. It will be more like who is left alive.

I volunteer to be "king of the Muslims". I have the advantage of not preferring any current muslim sect.

Firstly, I'm not after moral highground. Like I've already acknowledged (and you're rediscovering), I'm an asshole.

As far as answering your OP, there really was very little of substance to it -- it was mainly a litany of Pew's results presented without context -- but here's what I think of the little bit of commentary you tucked away at the end.

Just thought it good material the next time we're told we shouldn't lump all muslims in the same bracket, or told we shouldn't criticize Islam for some bullshit PC reasoning, or some do-gooder moral highground humping tosh about how all muslims aren't terrorists. 

Yes, because the Muslims you meet are statistics. I'm sure it's much easier to think of them this way than it is to treat them as, you know, individuals.

In fact, I suggest a schism. We should now have "peaceful Islam" and "Traditional Islam".

For those who want to join the peaceful sect, they should have no qualms about rewriting their materials to say what they obviously think God actually meant. All violent and oppressive bullshit is removed, and replaced with lots of nice peaceful stuff. People who are opposed to such reform can stay in "traditional Islam".

Then we can see who is all mouth and no trousers. Why would you lobby to keep in stuff that you constantly have to make excuses for?

As was pointed out in the other thread, Islam won't be defanged until they undergo their own bloodletting so horrific people move to restrict its impact on civic life, just as happened with the 30 Years' War and Christianity.

Middle Easterners have a proverb: Me and my brother against my cousin; me and my cousin against the world -- meaning that internecine struggle will stay that way so long as the outer world stays out of it.  If the West intervened in a Muslim sectarian war, they would drop their fight with each other and band together to fight the Western incursion.

They won't cease terror attacks against us right away, but if there were a Muslim schismatic war, the attacks on the West would peter out, because in a war, you focus your power on your immediate enemy; you don't scatter your attacks, because you dissipate your own military power that way.

Look at it this way: Yemen is in the middle of a bloody civil war.  When's the last time a terrorist plot against the West originated in Yemen?

That's what I'm saying, though. Christianity and Islam are not exactly the same, and won't react the same and have the same problems. The New Testament is not the same as the Koran, the same way that Jesus is not the same as Mohammad. Different religions, different cultures, different history, different ideologies, different traditions, and so and so on. I know you hate religion, but that does not mean all religions are the same. There's plenty of diversity, and not all religious people are going to act the same way, especially if they are from different religions.

On the contrary, biblical Judaism and biblical Christianity are almost identical to Koran Islam except for a couple of very small details.  All three are death cults.  All three preach intolerance and death to anyone who doesn't toe the party line.  All three have crazy-assed bigoted nutty deities who demand that their followers kiss their butts 24/7/365 or else get tossed into the fire.  There's zero difference between them.  

In the Old Testament if you don't suck up to the God character you get stoned to death.  

In the New Testament if you don't suck up to the Jesus character he will toss your behind into the fire.

In the Koran if you don't suck up to the Allah character his minions will kill you.

Christians want Jesus to return to rule the world.  They forget that the fairy tale says that he will be an intolerant prick who will rule with a rod of iron.  It's obey or die.  No freedom, no liberty, no thinking for yourself or doing what you want to do when you want to do it.  He tortures everyone, destroys the environment, kills all life, destroys the planet.  

Guess what?  ISIS is working on that agenda.  It's doing exactly what the Christians want the Jesus character to do.  According to the biblical fairy tale a rational person would consider the Jesus character to be a prick.  But the Jesus fanatics love him even though he's just like ISIS.  It has to be proof of mental illness.
