Funny thing, I was on twitter just now with another well intended liberal, being a liberal myself who always argue, "words have meaning and consequences"....... As if I didn't know that. 

Now here is the thing KUSA wants to vote for a dipshit, and I am sure KUSA thinks I am full of shit. But the difference is neither of us are running for public office. 

I don't think some both on the left and right understand how free speech works legally, as far as rolls with non famous, famous and politicians and media, each situation has a different context. Which is why I hate my fellow liberals who insist on "be polite all the time in every context". 

Of course everyone likes politeness more than getting offended. But at the same time we all also like to bitch, and since we do not live in a utopia, there is no way to force the idea that others will only say nice things that never offend. That is why the law is in place and makes distinctions as to context and between no names and fame, and the difference between liable and slander, and there is a MUCH higher standard of proof of damage for a famous person than there is a no name.

It depends who is saying what, what they are saying, and where they are saying it, and in what context they are saying it. It is simply NOT enough to say "that offends me, your cuss words offend me" in order to silence someone. But when it comes to high profile politicians, they need to understand, that when they get elected, they no longer just represent those who voted for them, but all the laws and people living under those laws, and on top of that, they are also diplomats to the world. So there is a different standard of conduct.

But the blasphemy of politicians, celebrities and even holy people, who are not holding office, have to be open to offensive speech. It is the only thing preventing either the left or right from becoming abusive. Certainly the media too.

So again, the law starts with no calls to violence, or acting out in violence. Outside that, it depends on context of situation and case by case.

There was a horrible B movie comedy that flopped a few years ago, and the plot was about how everyone was uneducated and stupid, and the President was just as dumb but popular and he entertained everyone in an arena with some sort of "death match", but the one smart guy managed to prove that everyone was wrong and saved them by showing them how the crops could be saved.

Sad that that movie was so bad, but it does remind me of the direction Trump wants to pull this country..
