I live at the base of a quiet cul de sac. There are a lot of Muslims in my area and a nice Muslim family in my in my street. I have no idea of the location of the nearest mosque or church.
I would not like to see a mosque built anywhere near me. Nor a church, school, warehouse, football stadium , pub, super market, gas station, or fast food outlet of any kind. Some of the reasons differ marginally (eg the stink from say a KFC) ,but it boils down to property values and personal inconvenience.
Here we have zoning laws which determine what may or may not be built in a specific location. If a person buys a site and has planning approval, that's the end of the matter. Appeals must be lodged BEFORE approval is obtained. Successful grounds include health, environmental and heritage. I'm unaware of a successful appeal based on religious bigotry, or on the basis of what some anonymous person(s) domestic or foreign might think or do.
'A lot of people' are offended that some people want to build something they don't like ,but which the builders have every legal right to build? El fucking stiffo. Everyone has the right to be offended,no one has the right not to be offended.
