An odd question that came to my mind.

 Can I send a remote probe through the door first? The guys at Stargate Command did that. 
Actually my first impulse would be to knock.

I'd go through the door. I'm a curious person.
But I have to ask, on what are you basing the terms "paradise" and "torture"? One's idea of torture could be another's idea of paradise, and another's idea of paradise could be another's worst nightmare. P.S. So the question refers to whatever would be paradise or torture for you.

Life always moves on... to not want to go through the door indicates a fear of reality.
No, it indicates a fear of unnecessary risk. Whether or not someone (well, me) would go through the door depends on the amount of risk involved. As I said earlier in this thread, I am quite happy with my life and a fifty/fifty chance of destroying that happiness is not worth the risk. So, it is not a 'fear of reality'. It is a choice to maintain the current reality.
