An odd question that came to my mind.

Can I send a remote probe through the door first?

The guys at Stargate Command did that.

I'd go through the door. I'm a curious person.

But I have to ask, on what are you basing the terms "paradise" and "torture"? One's idea of torture could be another's idea of paradise, and another's idea of paradise could be another's worst nightmare.

P.S. I didn't read the thread, so I have no idea if this has been asked. :/

As the question stands I choose no because as long as where I'm at existed and was in it's current state, I wouldn't risk what I already have on uncontrollable even odds without cause.
"There ought to be a term that would designate those who actually follow the teachings of Jesus, since the word 'Christian' has been largely divorced from those teachings, and so polluted by fundamentalists that it has come to connote their polar opposite: intolerance, vindictive hatred, and bigotry." -- Philip Stater, Huffington Post

I consider myself curious but not especially stupid. Cats are curious AND stupid. Hence 'curiosity killed the cat'

Not believing in luck,I seldom gamble;it depends on the odds and If I can afford to lose. 50/50 is a mug's bet.

"But knowledge revived it" is the rest of that superstition

Exactly. Paradise and torture are a subject matter. So the question refers to whatever would be paradise or torture for you.

Life always moves on... to not want to go through the door indicates a fear of reality.

No, it indicates a fear of unnecessary risk. Whether or not someone (well, me) would go through the door depends on the amount of risk involved. As I said earlier in this thread, I am quite happy with my life and a fifty/fifty chance of destroying that happiness is not worth the risk. So, it is not a 'fear of reality'. It is a choice to maintain the current reality.
