The issue at hand between 45 and Un are nukes, not ground wars. Bad excuses for ground wars are a different topic. Our species can survive ground wars without nukes, our species can get wiped out by a global nuclear war.

I don't want another ground war or a nuclear war. We cannot help what Un does, we can only react. How we react matters.

On the contrary, Kim is the one truly reacting.    He is reacting to our pattern of behavior in manufacturing fictitious threats to justify toppling dictators we've set up as obstacles to our geopolitical goals, as in Iraq,  and then in not keeping faith with dictators who does what we want and instead facilitate their being hunted down and killed, as in Libya.

Nuclear deterrent is kim's ticket for survival.   For all of trump's bluster and the idiotically cheesy chest thumping of low intelligence jingoists like A theist, no American regime would ever dare to risk nuclear retaliation on Los Angeles or Chicago in return for the pleasure of toppling Kim.

Rex tillerson's last minute back peddling about United States not seeking regime change in North Korea is 20 years and 3 wars too late. The delayed, but predictable and almost inevitable, penalty for manufacturing a fictitious chemical weapon threat from saddam Hussein in 2001 to justify regime change in iraq, and failure to assure kadafi's survival after he gave up his nuclear program at American behest, is a real ability of the North Koreans to launch nuclear tipped missiles at continental US 18 years later.

Finally, after all this time waiting. A war and enemy all of America can really get behind and support.

Um no, don't even try to justify what Un is doing. His family were despots long before he was born. No that does not mean we need to make excuses like Bush did.

It is not an either or thing here. I already said I don't want either a nuclear war or another ground war either. I know what the GOP has done for decades, and no, nobody should want that. But that does not make Un or his family good either. Just like Cuba and the missile crisis under JFK didn't make Castro a hero.

China doesn't want a refugee problem nor do they want a unified western free society next to it's border. This can be handled with diplomacy and sanctions. Neither a nuclear war or a ground war are an option.

You seem to suffer from a deep confusion between core motivation and predictable reaction on the one hand, your subjective perception of good and bad on the other.

Yes, his family were despots since 1948.   And they like to stay that way.  So what is the conclusion to be drawn from this?

That's why after 2001, it is entirely predictable that they will ignore all else to focus on acquiring a credible nuclear deterrent.   When we went into Iraq, we should have considered some despot acquiring an ability to deliver a nuke to the continental us within 10-20 years as a extremely likely long term consequence of the invasion.

I predict North Korea will still be with us in 50 years, precisely because they have a nuclear weapon, and their continued existence, combined with the extinction of nukeless Hussein and kadafi will continue to serve as abject lessons for all despots out of favor in american's increasingly feckless foreign policies that independent ability to nuke the US is the best and only assurance of survival for despots.

Not since the 1950s has the US done as much to encourage others to acquire the capability to nuke us as we have done between 1996 and now, primarily between 2001 and now.

Whether the North Korean population can withstand another five decades of deprivation doesn't seem so certain, to me.

Looks like North Korea is now threatening a missile attack against Guam in response to President Trump's fire and fury threat.

DUH but so what, it still wont matter who shoots off a nuke first, friend or foe, that has a very good likelihood of causing a domino effect. Of course it is blackmail. NK is blackmailing even China, this is no secret. But so what. This isn't about just the Kim family or Trump for that matter. This is ultimately about preventing that domino effect.

I don't trust 45 not to get stupid.

Facepalm Of course one nuclear shot begets another.

You seem to think Trump makes his decisions in a vacuum when it's apparent he doesn't.

Look at his body language.  He's out of his depth and terrified about it.  Douche nozzle.

Boru

He's not insane; he knows that a first strike against the US would result in the utter destruction of his country, family and people.  He wants "the big one", because he wants a seat at "the big table".  Without nuclear weapons and a launch capability, North Korea is just a puny 3rd/4th world country whom the West can ignore.

I was actually referring to Trump, not the Korean douche nozzle.

I just hope that fat little Kimmy boy isn't stupid enough to launch a strike at our forces in SOKO or at the U.S. mainland. We have the capability to totally flatten North Korea and reduce it to a burned out cinder numerous times over.

My mind conjures up an image of you wanking vigorously with one hand while typing with the other.

Considering about 80% of the internet is porn and the rest is cat videos, that's not such a stretch of the imagination lol
