I was thinking something like that, American culture seems to revolve a lot around being as masculine as possible, showing everyone how tough you are, flaunting masculinity, showcasing how secure you are in your masculinity, that sort of things, I guess that's what feminists mean when they talk about fragile masculinity. Everyone, both boys and girls, seem to be encouraged to 'be one of the boys' in a desperate attempt to have a glimpse of the divine masculine tm. I'm just saying being super tough isn't the only way to be cool, some kids both boys and girls do prefer..*gasp*. ..not so masculine activities and it's equally important to give them equal care.

There certainly a lot of people for whom the above is true, there likewise are a lot who unequivocally reject it.

I'm British, not that it matters, but I myself most definitely do and always have (except maybe when I was a young child or young adolescent) unequivocally rejected it.

It's one of the reasons I detest phrases such as "man up" or "grow some balls".

I am one of the people who supports acknowledging the differences and special characteristics of masculine and feminine traits.

But I wouldn't describe masculinity as what you describe above. I would say masculinity is being courageous, emotionally strong, and willing to die to protect those who are weaker. Not in a macho sort of way, but in a sacrificial, humble sort of way. To sum it up, masculinity is being "a man for others", if you will. My husband has a key chain given to him by one of his scout masters when he got his Eagle with those words engraved into it. It's kind of a boy scout motto.

Femininity I would describe as being compassionate, nurturing, and intuitive. The newest Wonder Women movie portrayed this so well. Diana was strong and brave, but they made it a point in the movie to portray her compassion, her draw towards babies, and her intuition about other people - which set her apart in a special way from the men she was fighting alongside.

Now this doesn't mean women aren't or shouldn't be brave, strong, etc.... and vice versa. Men should absolutely also be compassionate, etc. But there are certain virtues that come inherently more naturally to women and others that do so for men. But that's the beauty of it I think. The sexes can learn from each other and compliment each other. Neither one is better than the other.

I realize you won't respond to me, but this sort of comment forces me to ask the following questions...

Why do you think it's so important to attribute certain characteristics as "feminine" or "masculine"?

Do you truly believe that your categories are objective? Because if they're not objective, they're kinda useless.

As I said in the post, I think certain characterists objectively, inherently do come more naturally to women and some that do for men. I think this is something that is actually existing, not something I have simply made up or assigned. Male brians and female brains are different, oir genetics are different, our bodies are different, our hormones and chemical makeup is different. So yes, I believe objectively that feminine characteristics and masculine characteristics are also different.

This is a whole other discussion for another time (and I might not disagree with you entirely), but I think CL's made it clear that even if some characteristics come more naturally to males/females, any girl or boy who wants to pursue an interest that might traditionally be considered 'masculine' or 'feminine' respectively should be able to do so.  The addition of females to the Boy Scouts only opens more opportunities for girls that haven't, until now, had an organization with the size and resources of the Boy Scouts that lets them pursue these interests.  This is a purely positive move by the Boy Scouts.
