lol @ "restbits"
That made my day right there.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great

GS used to be better, but are suffering from all sorts of problems right now. Massive direction and leadership issues.
The only reason it exists is because BS wouldn’t let girls in the first place.
And to answer the OP, it’s money. As is usually the case. They realized GS was crashing hard, and realized picking up that business would be lucrative.
I was a scout for 4 years. Although my troop was not girly girl, we did spend an inordinate amount of time selling cookies. Modern GS is worse. It’s really all it’s about now. Sell cookies, have an outing and/or camp with the funds, rinse and repeat. I want my kid to learn more than how to look cute and sell cookies.
So....go Boy Scouts, I guess?
Girl Scouts should suck it up and make it mixed gender, too. Honestly it would probably improve the organization.

So maybe they should drop the "Girl" and "Boy" labeling and just call them the "Scouting with physical fun in the dirt and spitting" or "Scouting with lots of social bonding".
But maybe there needs to be a scouting option where boys like Drich can live out his latent homo erotic fantasies?

I was a cub scout has a child and I hated every moment of it, there was to much activity for my taste. If there was a scouting program that did not have all the outdoors actives, I probably would of liked it more. Why can't their be a version of scouts that has more computers in it? Instead of getting a badge for tying a knot, you get a badges based on programing, graphics, and hardware. That would of been cool to get badge for making your own PC.

With respect to scouts that policy changed several years ago, IIRC.

If you get to thinking you’re a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else’s dog around.
