Then they don't have to keep being members.  This is how any organization with a board of directors works.  The leaders make a decision, the members can follow that decision or leave.  There were no external forces or organizations that made the scouts do this.

I love it when we get to use conservative talking points on conservatives. Points out the hypocrisy of their position. "Yes I support the free market...except when it goes against MY DEEPLY HELD BELIEFS!!!"

Plus they are not even being forced, each pack gets to decide whether they want to remain an all-boy pack, or admit girl dens, or create a new all-girl pack.

I can only assume that people against this decision simply don't like the idea of girls participating in "non-traditional gender role" activities. Let's keep the girls where they belong...in the kitchen, making cookies (except they don't even make the damn cookies).

I'm semi-serious too. I used to defend the Girl Scouts because they seemed to be a pretty progressive organization. However I've heard from numerous sources now that it's basically about selling cookies and pretty much nothing else. This is probably an unpopular opinion in America but the cookies aren't even that good. There are way better cookies in grocery stores, sorry, but it's true. The thin mints are nice, but nothing special. I figure it's tradition that keeps them in a favorable view, I predict in a blind taste test they would lose out every single time.

So yeah, it's a cookie cartel that effectively uses slave labor in the form of little girls. If you found out that Nabisco had an army of girl sales reps that it didn't pay, you'd be outraged. The Girl Scouts are somehow immune.

To be fair, the profits from the cookie sales help fund activities for the girls. I know that when we sold popcorn in the BSA, that money paid for a lot of activities. In the case of Boy Scouts, the unit makes about 30%. The active boys sell the most, and earn the most awards. Those awards are paid for by popcorn money. That helps disadvantaged kids, because we charged a pittance for membership in the unit. If I total up the money our units earned in the years I ran the popcorn cartel, our units netted just under $9k. That's a lot to work with, even if it is spread over a number of years.

I think it's hilarious that the mere presence of a woman seems emasculating to some men.

that what scouting is sport. it was a place where boys could develop and become men without having to work out their fragile egos in front of the opposite sex.

We (some of the less bigotted) can look at other cultures 'rights of passage' like the Spartan's method of bring up a child and at a certain age send him out to kill a wolf or a native american vision quest or even something as mudain as a bar-mitsva as a right of passage for a boy to become a young man. Use to be in this country, the basic skill set of the boy scouts was the same sort of ritual.

I worked with many who have had a defining moment where a man leaves the childish things behind and embrace manhood fully. Then there's this generation where soceity has produced the peter pan man child douche bag. the perfect mindless man child. men who do not know how to lead, men who do not know how to be direct. men who do not know how to work/have no work ethic.

I'm not saying scouting is the only way to manhood, but it was a big part of it for a great number of young men and even some of our presidents.

So can any of you explain why the BOY SCOUTS are being forced to allow girls in, while the Girl scouts do not?

One why can't boys have their own little club and girls have the same?

I remember the boy scouts as being one of the few restbits I got from my sisters growing up. camping, fishing, camp fire stories! and we even started lying about girls we had kissed or what not. can't exactly lie about kissing such and such's sister when she is there to call you out!

What or why is there such a need to emasculate men and boys? to turn them into these gender neutral steers. Why can boy's be boy scouts and girls be girl scouts?

Damn. Does this mean that it will be harder for you to hit little children because society doesn't like the idea of a grown man hitting a little girl?

Stupid people should be made/FORCED to understand there are always multiple perspectives. And while no one is compelling the BSA to accept girls, the BSA is indeed FORCING all of it's affiliates to accept this new rule. meaning no one is able to opt out.. Do you now understand moron?
