Hmm. Cops dealing with violent spats between neighbours is kind of de riguer. It appears so far that this bloke blindsided Paul as he was mowing his lawn. OK, I have no love for Paul, but that is not on, if true.

However, ask this. Were the very same thing to happen between two nobodies who happened to be neighbours in dispute, would a thread be created about it? Why? Or why not?

Given that it's Rand Paul, isn't he obliged to refuse the help of the government's police and hire his own?

 Either political / race based violence is wrong or it's not. 

In the new normal, it's not. In the new normal, for example, it's okay to use your political position to do bodily violence to brown and/or poor people. Similarly, it's okay to use violence to oppose a political position or candidate.

Though I'm guessing that, in the case of Paul, it was a run of the mill kicking your neighbors ass kind of day. This state is famous for feuding neighbors, and this wasn't the first time they'd gone at it.

The Republican "was blindsided and the victim of an assault" on Friday, a spokeswoman for him was quoted by US media as saying.

Interesting, thanks for the link. Based on that summary of his views, I wouldn't say I agree with him on everything, but from watching the presidential debates last year I got the sense that he actually had a plan that a) made sense as a way to improve the country and b) he genuinely believed in. It's basically what I look for in politicians, not whether they are left/right wing, because it seems both sides are always corrupt and struggle to reform policy anyways The guy with a realistic plan who actually believes in his cause will be most likely to actually accomplish that.

Oh....he has a plan he believes in, alright.....but it's not likely to be the one you think it is. 

He peddles the same tired economics as the rest of his party, differentiating himself only by a token vote that he knows won't amount to anything. He's atrocious on the climate, he's atrocious on social issues, he's atrocious on sep of church and state. But he like..you know, likes pot and stuff, man.

He's basically running the same scam his daddy did, with far less conviction. He's a carpetbagger who moved down here to grace us with a lazy version of Pappy Paul.
