You don't have to be very intelligent, rational, or well educated to realize that voting for Rand Paul is a bad idea. You're talking about shooting for the stars..but I;d settle for an ounce of common sense. 
Your comments about specialization, though, are a good argument for a representative technocracy. I think it's hilarious that we, at a fundamental level, think that our votes alone determine whether or not someone is suitable for office. There should be minimum qualifications for candidates, specific to their role. Every other job has them....but not politics.
We're hiring these guys, right? Hell..we're even paying them.
