As for the three years-- come back in 2020, and tell me again that was an arrogant thing to say. . .

n00b! Tongue

To say to a person that you don't know that it will need an amount of time to do something is arrogance , no matter who the person is and because I didn't asked  how much it will take me so telling me that it will take me X time it is you not believing that someone can do it faster than you , arrogance.

I'm a pretty smart guy, and I've been studying philosophy on and off for 30 years.  Hell, I have debates on these forums that have gone on longer than three years. Plato, Socrates, those guys spent entire lives on SINGLE philosophical worldviews.  But you are going to come in and master all of the philosophical knowledge available through wikipedia, including referenced materials and sites, in three years, and me assuming you won't is arrogant, huh?

Maybe before you start griefing, you should actually GO to the site (I bet you still haven't), see what's there, and then say, "Oh. . . yeah. . . that IS a lot of valuable information. That WILL take me a very long time to go through! Gee, thanks bennyboy!"

LOL, unfortunatly, too many of them have done so..and more are at it now.  While thy certainly condensed the time it might take to grasp whatever they were opining on, the sheer volume of their condensed product is still too much.  There just aren't enough hours in the day, or days in a life.

You could get the broad strokes of alot...ofc.  Honestly, if I were just starting..I wouldn;t go straight to the opinions of learned men.  I;d start at the bottom..and learn the mechanics of propositional logic and conditional statements.  Besides, those are the tools all of those learned men used to reach their conclusions.....and at the bottom of it all it's fairly simple. Would you like to hear an example of something positively basic...that might challenge decidedly more elaborate ideas that you likely hold?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Wow, with pithy wisdom like that, you're at least 50% of the way to total philosophical mastery.  Good work! Now you just need a hemp satchel, a student loan that will never be paid back, and the ability to make people uncomfortable by staring deeply into their eyes, and you can skip all that other stuff I mentioned.

I should've been more clear. They spent their lives so that you wouldn't have to start from the same point they did. It is something called evolution bennyboy.

It;s still best to start from the position they did.  Comprehension.  We don't start learning english by reading Joyce.

You seem to know a lot about philosophy for someone who has asked for help on starting an inquiry into philosophy.  And anyway, what's this red herring for?  I told you that philosophy is a lifelong pursuit, and you seem to disagree.  So let's drop the thing I said that you didn't like-- I formally retract it here for everyone to see.  I apologize without reservation for saying that it would take you at least three years to digest the information at wikipedia.

Now, let's actually DO some philosophy, and we can start with a simple question:

How will you know when you've mastered the field of philosophy?

It is not about mastering it is about coming up with new ideas from the old ones.

I've condensed all the books on philosophy into one word...

"WHATEVER"
No God, No fear.
Know God, Know fear.
