Atheists who announce "I'm good without god"

RE: Atheists who announce "I'm good without god"
In all honesty, I don't ever recall saying I am good, or I am bad, or I am moral except in a facetious sarcastic or self deprecating manner. (e.g., when I got a turkey bowling, playing a hand of Poker well, or similar type occasions - "God, I'm good) I do what I do and live how I do, and it is up to friends, family and the people I interact with to decide what I am. Like everyone, I have done things I regret that could be described as good or bad, because after 69 years it is hard not to. As for morality, it is a subjective term, and "sin" which is a nonsense term, I certainly cannot judge.

To the OP... Most of the time anymore; I mostly assume, that they don’t understand the moral arguement or the argument from good.

So either I say all this, or I simply say 'I'm good without God', and hope theists get it. If they don't, it's not my problem.

Conversely, A born again home boy who just got out after doing 10 for aggravated assault can proclaim: I was an asshole before hand, but I'm an asshole good person now, because now I've got jesus tatts on my back!
No God, No fear.

It's not something I'd personally say, but if I did, it would be shorthand for, "Being good has nothing to do with God, in my opinion. It comes down to how you treat others, and God's opinion of that is irrelevant. There's no need to worry about God's feelings or wellbeing, as he can look after himself."

Is it a response to religious people who think atheists are less moral? I would rather not dignify that. If you wanna address that argument then bring it to them but to use that as your motivation is low rent.

I see your point. It's implicitly suggesting that gods exist.

I've never actually heard someone say they're good without god anyway because the subject of religion never comes up where I live.

I don't mind people saying it, but I'd rather it be phrased perhaps a bit differently to convey a broader meaning.

"Are you only good because you fear hell ?
I'm good because I value the well being of other people."

"Maybe you're only good because you're more like a trained dog that behaves well in order to get a reward ?
Take that reward away and you lose that domestic desire to behave."

"I'm good because I can consider the consequences of my actions and take those actions that increase the health, happiness and well being of others."

"If your own behavior is completely tied to your image of a god, then that would make you a puppet.
If you are a puppet, then you will never know what it is like to do something good until you cut the strings and make that first real choice to act on your own moral code."
