It's only fun before you pull the trigger. After that, just a bunch of nasty ass work.

Can't stand the sight or smell, personally. Besides, cleaning game is women's work.

I have a horror of killing animals. I kind of understand the atavistic pleasure hunters get from hunting.
BUT, I suspect I would soon get over any squeamishness if it was a matter of killing an animal if I wanted to eat meat. I doubt very much that I would become vegetarian rather than kill a chicken, rabbit, sheep or goat. Don't know about pigs; they're such intelligent animals.BUT I quite like pork chops, and REALLY like ham and bacon. I think this may be because I'm just an intolerant old fart: I think that being a vegetarian on moral grounds in an affluent society such as ours, is just little precious. When I was a gossoon , close to xmas, my dad came home with large, live turkey. He attempted to give it to mum. All lI'l say about that exchange is didn't quite go the way dad had expected. -----Dad killed and gutted the thing. I had to remove the feathers. Never much cared for turkey after that.

I was thinking about something similar when you posted about bacon. If I never have to pluck another chicken in my life I'll die a happy man, but I sure do love fried bird.

The parents were sharecroppers. Among their pay was half a hog. Dressed out and whole. Seeing that porker on the dining room table is one of my earliest memories.
