California ban on high capacity magazines declared unconstitutional

Frequently those people that are the most against guns are those who can' t legally own them.

And even more often - in the cases of blowhards who pronounce blades or martial arts as superior for self defense.

You can always spot the type.

I can legally own guns.  I opt not to do so. And some of the most pro-gun people in the world are people who can't legally own guns.  They're called 'convicted felons'.  Those guys just LOVE guns.

I agree with the second bit, though - it takes a profoundly stupid man to bring a knife to a gun fight.

I'm not a martial artist (the wife is, and she's scary good at it), but I have disarmed people with guns.  Well, just two people.  But still...

Something I've noticed over the years.

Frequently, people who are most fervently against gun control are those, who know, that if there was even the lowest threshold of competence and mental stability required for owning projectile firing weapons - they wouldn't be allowed near a stapler... Rolleyes

Since I vaguely remembered some guy with a rifle outside the White House I went ahead and looked it up. It looks like you are remembering a couple of different incidents.

Quote:October 29, 1994 – Francisco Martin Duran, took a semi-automatic rifle and fired 29 rounds at the White House before being tackled to the ground and arrested.

February 8, 2001 – Robert W. Pickett, of Evansville, Indiana, an accountant who had been fired from the IRS thirteen years earlier, fired shots outside the White House fence and was then shot in the knee and arrested by Secret Service agents.

The perp used an SKS during the incident in 94 when Clinton was president. The guy in 2001 just used a 5 shot revolver.

On a side note, unmodified SKS rifles were not affected by the 94 assault weapons ban. They would also pass muster on most proposed bans based on feature sets. An unmodified SKS uses a fixed 10 round magazine. It has no pistol grip, threaded barrel or any of the other commonly included features proposed for most bans.

The Clinton administration did ban the import of surplus SKS rifles in 94 by executive order, but they weren’t covered under what is commonly referred to as the assault weapons ban. If the US does implement another ban based on a combination of features, rifles like the eastern block manufactured SKS and US made M1 Garand are probably going to suddenly become a lot more popular.

The good guy without a gun wore a white cowboy hat. That's the one I was referring to. (LOL'd at "good guy wearing a white hat".)

Latest update to the OP.

Quote:THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that the Judgment is stayed in part pending final resolution of the appeal from the Judgment. The permanent injunction enjoining enforcement of California Penal Code §32310(a) and (b) is hereby stayed, effective 5:00 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2019.

IT IS HEREBY FURTHER ORDERED that the preliminary injunction issued on June 29, 2017, enjoining enforcement of California Penal Code §32310 © and (d) shall remain in effect.

IT IS HEREBY FURTHER ORDERED that the permanent injunction enjoining enforcement of California Penal Code §32310 (a) and (b) shall remain in effect for those persons and business entities who have manufactured, imported, sold, or bought magazines able to hold more than 10 rounds between the entry of this Court’s injunction on March 29, 2019 and 5:00 p.m., Friday, April 5, 2019. Dated: April 4, 2019.

Basically the ban on possession of high capacity magazines will not be enforced while the case is appealed, but California residents will not be able to buy them again after 5:00 pm today.

You might be outgunned if you have a gun.

You WILL be outgunned if you don' t.

Which doesn't refute my point at all in fact it's a perfect example of it

I have a favorite method for disarming people.  Goes like this.  "Hey, Billy, put that pistol in your glovebox before you shoot your dick off - you won't need it for the bbq. Want a beer?".
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!
