Oh well, it did. People were not happy with the fact that their churches and mosques were used as barns.
But they couldn't really object to it, since Stalin the maniac was always happy with sending their asses to the gulags.

Should the military be religious? Should it get guidance from above?

BTW, speaking of using churches as barns: You gotta love how the Ottomans used the Parthenon, eh?

Mehmet, how dare you question the noble morality of the soviet military? If a uniformed man with a gun says your mosque would make a better barn, and that you belong in a gulag, he's speaking from the purest form of absolute moral authority. You are impeding his quest to perfect his mind, body, and spirit by disagreeing with him.
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

It really does not change the fact that the communists have done this.
And no. The military should be nationalistic. And as such, must also respect the religion of the nation from which it's compromised from.

Oh. Now this is somewhat related to the soviet military?
I must tell you that fear was not kept within the soviet union by the red army, it was done by the police commisars, and those were the people who ordered people to be sent to gulags, and to decide which religious buildings to be demolished and used as barns.

There's the rub, Mehmet-there's the rub.

What really is the problem?
The military is the people. At least we Turks have always seen the military being the "people" themselves, not a seperate entity that towers above us.
Throughout our history, we have always been warriors. We didn't see us as anything different, even now.
It's said that every Turk is born a soldier.

The army cannot go against the same nation it's compromised from. It's certainly not possible. However, it is also tasked with defending the same nation from any threats, either internal, or external.

People who say things like that are usually talking out of their ass. If people were born soldiers then we wouldn't need to train them. You really have thrown a sopping wet blanket of myth over military service. Your grandfather served yeah? I can understand.

Wouldn't take a military to get rid of religion anyway.

Well, this is just a saying. Not to say that we're born with a sword in our hands.
But we were born into a people that are inherently warriors at heart.
Meaning, a martial race.
Not farmers, builders or simple hunter gatherers.

Sure...sure....lol. (takes many more support personnel to keep each soldier fighting. any warrior culture is going to be pretty good at supply and logistics, and spend many more man hours on those things than actual fighting. Can't have it both ways. Soldiers need food, equipment, and lodging/fortification. You want the Attillas? gotta take bob the farmer as well.)

Then you have nothing. The Romans were true warriors, but they were farmers first, and they did not forget this. A military nation that is military first, foremost, and above all is devoid of humanity.
