Sure I guess. All I’m saying is that I personally felt my god parents were more impactful than my uncles and aunts. Mostly because you don’t pick your blood family. This was a bond between my parents and god parents. If the Blood sister offered that to you, it’s a signal that she wants you more in her life and trusts you more. That’s what makes the title an honorarium, it’s the family you CAN choose.

So, is there nothing you do for the people in your life that doesn't align with your militant atheism?  

You can easily attend and show your care and respect for people without actually participating.  If they care enough to want you to attend you don't need to be an asshole about it.

I've attended plenty of Catholic weddings and funerals and even a Lutheran funeral...because it's the decent thing to do.

I summarily removed myself from my family so that I would not have to attend any of their nonsense social gatherings.

You want to be a participating family member in your own family, you do you. But don't shame someone else for not doing what you're doing.

Catholic weddings and funeral masses are about the marriage or death of the person(s) involved.  I was never preached to by anyone wanting to share the good news.  Some people know how to act appropriately.  There's a time and a place for everything and those ceremonies aren't the time or the place for soul-saving.
