"You just want to be your own god"?
#41
RE: "You just want to be your own god"?
Of COURSE I want to be my own god. I mean, who is better qualified? I know what can be expected of me, I know my faults and strong points, I know the price I should pay for breaking my own rules.

No one need apply for the job of Boru’s God - the position is filled, and I’m doing a smashing job of it.

Does this work with other occupations ?

You just want to be your own plumber.
(No, not really)

You just want to be your own farmer.
(Yes, I would love that)

You just want to be your own personal stripper.
(I wouldn't really find any joy in that.)

I can't actually be my own god. I exist and becoming my own god would mean that my body would become non material and cease to exist. I wouldn't have a mind because I wouldn't have a brain. I would be nothing.

But the good news is that in a few thousand years someone might wrongly believe that I exist and there would be nothing I could do to alter that belief, because I don't actually exist.

The closest I've ever been to being a god is through lucid dreaming.

It's my universe, and I'm in charge.

It's the second most fun thing to do when horizontal...and vying for first place.
Disappointing theists since 1968!

In non-churchspeak "being your own god" means not accepting any authority above your own. Always thought that odd. I mine isn't it ultimately up to me to decide who to trust and what to believe based on my own experiences and reasons? Is having to make up your own mind a requirement of being an adult?

Sometimes my little god takes control, but thankfully that's transitory. It doesn't always make the best decisions.
Being told you're delusional does not necessarily mean you're mental.

I make a mental note to never turn my back on them again.  The only thing standing between them and skullfucking their neighbor is paranoia....and if they ever got better....they’d do worse.....

It's more like they're better people than they give themselves credit for. They imagine how terrible they would be without their God, but when they become atheists I've never seen one go on a crime spree. Cool
I'm not anti-Christian. I'm anti-stupid.

Someone who worries "What will ________think?" rather than thinking "Shouldn't do that; it'll hurt ________" has no fucking business speaking about morality.

And I wouldn't turn my back on 'em either.

Atheists cannot understand morality, empathy, decency, these "feelings" can only be acknowledged, appreciated, and most of all applauded by those of superior caliber.

Why just this morning, after I smoked bath salts, drank a bottle of tequila, drove (naked) to get my crack, I ran over a squadron of little old ladies on their morning jaunt. After stopping to make sure they were dead (no witnesses, right?) I assaulted their corpses. I robbed a charity, cause.....you know, why the fuck not! Humans taste better when they are sad, despondent. Especially the little ones. Getting to eat the moms twice though, that's beautiful.

Thank god I am so immoral....... I mean thank me........ I have no fucking clue that there are just certain no-no's. And even if I somehow did, I don't possess the necessary wiring capable of formulating that I am not the center of the universe. I mean after all, I am god.

But luckily I'm able to be openly gay and openly an Atheist outside of the family and that's largy due to the fact I hang out within the local metal and punk scene. Most people outside that scene that do accept it are young, so it's good to know that Trinidad is slowly evolving.

The fact that you hang out with the local metal and punk scene (who accepts you for who you are) sounds great... and --if I may say-- quite fun.

In the other thread I said some things about liking some of the philosophical aspects of Hinduism. (And that's true.) But I neglected to mention how much nonsense one has to ignore to even get to anything insightful out of the Bhagavad Gita. A fuckton. It takes discipline. Taking Hinduism literally (in my opinion) is an absurd worldview.

You can just ignore me sometimes. I've been an atheist for so long, I'm bored with it. And I'm so bored with it, I like to shake the pillars that hold it up sometimes. Not in an "I endorse religion" way... more of an "I endorse Socrates" way. I like to question the things we take for granted. And here, most of us take for granted that religion is worthless. So I try to find nuggets of worth here and there when I can, and bring them up for debate.

It's a good thing. It's boring to just agree with a worldview all the time, as correct as it may be. And... I should add...it is healthy for the intellect to question the assumptions of your own worldview from time to time. I mean... that's what led me to atheism in the first place.
