Oh we do, especially those of us who did alot of hardening.  It's just that seems to be the better option than "nothing" - that we could realistically achieve in this political environment.  I do wonder, though, whether nutters would feel even the slightest tinge of irony after many decades of fear mongering about government control and tyranny.... when every preschool hallway has a faceless man employed as an agent of the state outfitted like a kevlar samurai silently and relentlessly patrolling the halls to be ready for any unauthorized activity on grounds.

I'm counting somewhere in the area of 200 guns in this photo, and the more I look into it, the more levels on which this is fucking insane outside of the obvious shit that's already been mentioned, like the fact that they have 18 of those firearms on the roof in a way that they could easily slide off and hit someone (admittedly, it's clearly just for the photo, but that clearly looks precarious even if it isn't something designed to punch a hole in a living thing to make it not be a living thing anymore), or the fact that it looks like a fucking bazooka is one of those guns in the back, or that, factoring in a $500 per gun average, someone's shelled out somewhere in the area of $100k on that panoply, as opposed to, well, literally anything else, like repairs for that house or a college fund for those kids.

That picture is extremely disturbing if real. There is absolutely no rational reason anyone would need that amount. Shit, you only have to hands anyway. And what the fuck? If they are "preppers" they are morons. Radiation would pollute surface water, crops, canned food, underground water table. You might survive for a few days, or months if you don't die from nuclear fallout, but even then, you'll be murdering your neighbors over resources and property. Fuck that shit. If our enemies shot off a nuke, I would simply want to in ground zero so I am vaporized. I have no desire to live in such horrible conditions.

And here I thought I liked guns. 

I’d be interested to see what they have on hand as far as medical, and what training they have to use it. As a gun owner I still admit that having a gun in the house statistically increases your odds of being shot. Though not having one in the house is still above flat “zero”. 

Not to start the obvious “why do we live in a world where you feel the need to carry an IFAK”, but this is probably the single most overlooked thing for 99% of gun owners I’ve ever met. 

Tourniquets, Hemostatic Gauze, Chest Seals, etc. Always attached to my bag. 

These people with 200+ guns. How much of that money was spent on “stop the bleed” classes? Think any of them even has a CPR certification? I would hesitate to call these people Preppers. They’re collectors with an excuse. (I own 3 guns, and have more money than they’re worth into: Medical, Security, Training. Also a combat vet - but that makes my opinion count for nothing more than the next guy. Soldiers are often blathering morons.)

Giving kids weapons, let alone assault rifles is not normal, nor should be normalized. I mean, Biden is trying desperately to prohibit selling weapons to minors (with a good reason), so how better it is to expose assault rifles to kids?

And, FYI, Biden is not trying to prohibit selling weapons to minors - that’s already illegal. He wants to raise the legal age to do so from 18 to 21.

It's tempting to look at that picture and think that there's some derangement in that family, but collectors are a thing. I know some guys on guitar forums who own a couple of hundred guitars and fifty amplifiers, too.

Bu bu bu, I thought only urban blacks in big cities were armed robbers. Didn't this white kid get the memo, and he wasn't even in Chicago. And I would bet my life, some parent or friend of a parent left their firearm out that was legally purchased and he stole it. But white people don't commit gun crimes according to some. And the clerk said she thought it was a prank. This IS white privilege. I bet she wouldn't have said that if it were a black kid doing it.

Not true. If you are not missing a can in your six pack, you'd accept that stockpiling them like that and displaying them like that isn't a "hobby" but a fetish. Sane firearm owners that I know and trust with a firearm do not brag about the weapons they have and they don't put them on display like a centerfold in a Playboy. It is a sickness when you get to that level.

Each of those kids can shoot and has an idea of what's theirs in that collection. I cant remember not knowing how to shoot and I can't remember not having "my guns". Honestly, I'd be less concerned with the kids than the adults. Gun safety is a matter of practical necessity if you don't want to be shot in your sleep, on accident, by children. It's only a thing to flaunt when you need to make a political point. They're just things to the kids.
