Whining isn't a good look on you.
You seem to want the cops to be something more than human.
Cops DO risk their lives all the time for people who are unable or unwilling to defend and or help themselves.
To expect another human being to rescue you when you get in trouble because you are unwilling to protect yourself is selfish and cowardly.
To expect another human being to arrest drunk drivers or shut down a meth lab or chase smash-and-grabbers is unreasonable. The case could be made that in every one of these cases, cops could be in danger of losing their lives.
If law enforcement personnel have no legal obligation to enforce laws (which is what YOU claimed), why have them at all?
I hardly think wanting cops to do what they’ve sworn to do is expecting them to be more than human.

In fairness, the cops are over a barrel here - which gets noted everytime some cop from some other country opines on the methods and quality of our policing. I know that the very last thing any pro ever wants in any situation with at risk civvies is even one more gun in the plaza. Some of their more notable fuckups have been when they arrive at a scene that contains one of Bikers Brave Self Reliers - and they promptly gun him down as the perp.

What is it you think I want, exactly? I feel like I should be made a party to this conversation you're having in your head about what I want. I'm starting to suspect you have these conversations in your head, and about guns, with random faces off the street. Just wandering around in a perpetual state of general confusion and paranoia. One a scale of "shit yeah" to "don't you know it brother!"..how close am I?

I walk around all day planning on what bit of work I need to get done next......
Guns haven' t come up lately... No time. I do need to get my crossbow in for service - a new cable - because opening day in October will be here soon - and no point in being one of the idiots who can' t plan that far forward....
But you keep making shit up - about what I think about all day bunky...... Stick to what you know.....

No need to make things up, you dutifully come here to tell us what you're thinking..and apparently you were thinking I wanted something I didn't get.
So, let's hear it.

Serious question: If a cop can decline to enforce any law because the cop feels his/her life would be at risk, why have cops at all?

What makes you think that your life is worth more than anyone else' s ?- THAT is the real question.....
If someone wants to put their life on the line for someone else - fine - that' s very noble..
But to REQUIRE someone to do so?
What makes you think you have the right to demand such things? That sort of thing is what religious fanatics and royalty do - not free people...
