That or something she knows is about to become public and this is a panic reaction.

This reeks of trying to get out ahead of some very bad press with a narrative.

I wouldn't be surprised if someone had some very bad kompromat on her as well.

Trump has finally stated a clear, unambiguous objective for the Iran war. And it's not about terrorism or regime change or defending Israel or nuclear enrichment. It's about dollars for him:

'If I had my choice, what would I like to do? Take the oil. Because it's there for that taking and there's nothing they could do about it. If it were up to me, I'd take the oil, I'd keep the oil, I would make plenty of money.'

- Another example is the Strait of Gibraltar or the Strait of Dover between the UK and France. There are international laws that guarantee the free passage of all ships through these channels.

Only in man-made channels like the canal of Panama and/or the canal of Suez are countries allowed to collect funds in return from the right of passage from man-made waterway. Which is why Emperor Belisarius has plans to create a man-made waterway just above the Bosporus just to collect money from incoming and outgoing ships. Smile

- I hate all sorts of troll activities. It makes it difficult for me to focus. I also will not try to mess with people whose mere occupation is to mess things up in the digital world. So if and when I see them I’ll usually just leave because their main presence indicates that the internet platform is poorly regulated and hence does not really care about its members.

The Grand Nudger:

- D. Trump is also a very old man. Bill Clinton was a very young president, George W. Bush was a middle-aged man (also quite young at the time) and Barrack Obama could have easily have secured a third term.

I think these power struggles between two elderly figures (Joe Biden and D. Trump) reflects some deeper lack of balance in US politics. Both democrat and republican parties have this lack of cohesion in them.

And all of this is serious enough to make Europeans start to work on some common military defense strategies just in case their entire alliance with the US comes to a halt at some point.

What everyone is very curious about at this point is the Midterm elections in the US.

Because another issue that could explode at any time is the issue of Taiwan. What do we do if China makes a move on Taiwan right now?

/So dialogue within the members of the same society is very important. Right now I really wonder if MAGA supporters are understanding the negative features of their presidential candidate.

- All of this is giving me headaches. In that case, dismantling the regime in Iraq was also a huge mistake. Saddam was a secularist who stood there as a buffer-zone against the rising power of Iran. It was after his fall that Iran was able to implement itself in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and the Gaza Strip and in Yemen. So everything that G.W. Bush did seems like a huge mistake as well. Sad

Yes, dismantling the Iraqi regime WAS a mistake. And the USA can't seem to learn from our mistakes. At least the Republicans can't.

Correct, but international laws are (usually, but not always) based on treaties between sovereign nations. Iran has never ratified the treaty allowing free passage through their Strait. Treaties regarding passage through Dover or Gibraltar or the Dardanelles do not apply to the Strait of Hormuz.

Even if Iran was legally obligated to allow free transit (they aren’t), what should be done when they don’t? Remember - THEY didn’t start this war. They didn’t close the Strait for shits and giggles.

Jesus fucking christ, no, they couldn't have.  We weren't deep enough into our fascist dictator timeline for that to be an option to either of them.

No one cares, or ever cared, that either of them were old.  One has always been crazy.  One has always been lawless.

Yes, yes, to deal with the conflicts a rogue us lead by a demented king might start.  There's no silver lining to this cloud Leo.

The mad king would cheer them on and invade greenland, or cuba.  Hey, why not turkey...while we're in the area?  Whens the last time you paid your trump tax? Ready for our next conquest, he says.

- These are very depressive subjects. People are dying all over the place and all of the time. And there is no solution in sight. And when it seems like there is a solution it usually turns up to be one big joke like G.W. Bush’s “war on terror” that was imposed on “rogue countries” that was supposed to “look better when it’s over”.

/So I’d be happier if all of you could stop calling me names. If something is disturbing you just say it and I’ll try to correct it if I can.

Otherwise I’m not that ignorant on most of the main issues that are going on in this world and I like these discussions because I don’t like to remain permanently on the receiving end of all of this endless flow of information that is being generated for us non-stop about all of the events happening in this world.

/But I don’t like disturbing people either. I might simply stop posting these comments if you want Smile

BrianSoddingBoru:

- There is the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea:

https://www.un.org/depts/los/convention_.../part3.htm

It says that “ships flying the flag of any sovereign state shall not suffer interference from other states when in international waters, apart from the exceptions provided for in international law.”

Natural Straits unlike man-made Canals (like the Canal of Panama for instance) are considered to be “International Water”.

/ All of this is so messed up that I don’t know what the next US government in 2029 is going to do about it. There has always been a balance of powers in the Middle East.
Before it was Ottoman and Persian dynasties. In colonial times it was France vs. Britain. In the 20th century it was Moscow Friendly countries vs. US friendly countries.

Right now the balance is broken with Israel extending its territorial aims by the hour and Iran being handled with the key to the whole Middle-East with nothing being expected in return, in a way that is almost identical to his “deal” with Moscow.

So I really don’t know who is going to put all of this back together and how. I am also not sure if I’ve ever seen anything like this in my entire life Smile

This is absolutely untrue. The Strait of Hormuz lies entirely within the territorial waters of Iran and Oman.

Quote:The Strait of Hormuz is not in international waters; it lies within the territorial waters of Iran and Oman.

And from the convention you cited:

Quote:1. The regime of passage through straits used for international navigation established in this Part shall not in other respects affect the legal status of the waters forming such straits or the exercise by the States bordering the straits of their sovereignty or jurisdiction over such waters and their air space, bed and subsoil.

2. The sovereignty or jurisdiction of the States bordering the straits is exercised subject to this Part and to other rules of international law.

But all of this is moot, as Iran has never ratified the Convention.

Care to try again?
