33,300
I don't feel smug about it, I've seen a number of those other damn words, but hell if I remember what a cantle is. Oh, well fuck me. It's part of a horse saddle. <--- duh (July 17, 2011 at 7:11 am)CharlieMilles Wrote: 24,800. I think the test is based off of a statistical model that looks at the probabilities on some form of tree of knowing related derived words from certain combinations of roots.
That said, such a thing will be, by nature, imprecise for an individual but quite precise for a large population of test takers. Which is why I am not to worried about the apparent ridiculous ranges of word knowledge offered -- the test can only examine a small subset of words considered, so it is probable that some of us have gotten a batch of words we'd never know despite our knowledge of other batches, while others will get nearly all of them from a favorable batch, possibly through a set of initial conditions or chance. I am more interested in the implementation of this test, if the model is at or greater complexity than what I've speculated. Would be cool.
Trying to compensate for a disappointing score Moros? Don't worry, while you may be depressed with your results, my score has left me positively suicidal.
Even if the open windows of science at first make us shiver after the cozy indoor warmth of traditional humanizing myths, in the end the fresh air brings vigor, and the great spaces have a splendor of their own - Bertrand Russell
Sorry to disappoint, Void. I hit 38,000, but not 40.
38100 words. My unrelenting verbosity paid off.
