Last resort in case of muslim invasion: nuke yourself from orbit as long as you still have them.

It costs a fuck ton of money to keep it.
I don't think us having nukes is necessary, desirable or moral, from what (little) I know about it.
Patrols only started in 1994. Now we're going to spend 205 billion UKP to replace it.
Think what that 205 billion could do if it was invested in research and education. But no, we'll spend it on a useless weapon of mass destruction because it helps some politicians in Westminster wave their cocks around and feel better about their jobs.
I look forward to the day Scotland gets its independence and the rest England and Wales need to find somewhere to store them.

Do I hear a coinpurse rattling? The UK's gonna buy a few bil worth of second hand weapons from us again, are they?
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. I forsake not, my country, my mission, my comrades, my sacred duty. I am relentless. I am always there, now and forever. I AM THE INFANTRY! FOLLOW ME!

Probably, yeah. I personally would like to see less reliance on the US for our nuclear weapons. Maybe in the future.

The 205 billion or the equivalent could do great things, but is getting rid of the stockpile a viable global policy option right now?

There'll probably be some agreement and money will flow from A to B to keep them where they are? Keeping nukes in different countries has a long tradition.

Could you please let me know where you got £205bn from??
Useless? The naivety there really is quite astounding. I'd suggest the need is greater now than it ever was in the time of the cold war.

Buy? No we're going to lease them from America. Buying suggests that it's an independent deterrent and that we're not in anyway dependent on America's permission to use them.

Not only that, but it means that after making such a large investment, we need to stay subservient to the US and agree to whatever they ask in order to stay in their good books. So whatever country the US wants to invade for oil, the UK will be forced to help out.

Sorry, but I know that to be total bollocks. It just isn't true.
