What brand of christianity with what brand of islam? If you change the wishy washy christians into wishy washy muslims, and the extremist christians into extremist muslims, not much would change methinks. The details of the superstition would differ, but that's about it.

That sounds very unethical. But don't interpret my reluctance to change a bunch of Christians into Muslims without their consent to be an endorsement of, or preference for Christianity.

Islam is hardly confident.  It is lashing out viciously precisely because of its profound sense of insecurity and powerlessness.

Its over the top behavior is partially attributable to its lack of long experience in developing more effective and subtle ways to keep its hold upon the weakwitted and the weak willed in the face of enlightenment, as Christianity has taken 500 years to do.  This seems to be attributable to the fact that Islam has never faced an strong autochthonous enlightenment embraced by the sustainably powerful with which it had to contend.  At any time it always seem easier to cast enlightenment as foreign or alien than to world with it or around it, even as it struggle with its own eroding power and influence and relegation to the uneducated and prospectless.

No.

They are both inveterately hostile to meaningful human progress and human enlightenment.   But Islam would be the more vicious and blood thirsty enemy in the short run, even though I strongly suspect Christianity will be the more effective enemy in the long run.

Islam will unleash a holocaust upon modernity if given the power, but will probably be overthrown permanently at the end if it is tried. Christianity aims to merely unleash an endless series of pogroms upon evolving modernity, each not quite severe enough to result in such backlash as to result in its own permanent overthrow.

Familiar evil taken to be virtue is, by far, the more effective evil.  I couldn't agree more strongly on any other subject.  It's not the perfidy of some group of savages from foreign places that presents itself as an existential threat to us, here in the US.  We're full up with our own homegrown saboteurs.

Replace Christianity with logic and science.  Replace Islam with logic and science.  Do the same for all other forms of woo.

In my view.

IMO comparing Christianity to Islam is much more like comparing a bad case of the flu which is usually non-fatal but can be fatal.... to a case of cancer which is often non fatal but more likely to be fatal than the flu.

Basically the religions are not equal. Islam is kind of behind Christianity at this point. But I do think in the future they will be Even Stevens ™

atheists dont believe in either, but i agree with what your implying. christian would be replaced by Islam to atheists because they would want a god that they can relate to. they dont want to serve a holy a perfect god, that is completely just and hates sin.
