Isn't that more how it works for people who think they know how god works?

truth
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."

RE: Question to theists
@Kit

I guess there;s always that.  Something I;ve found interesting about gods and the people who believe in them and also believe that they now how god works his mysterious ways™....is that it often takes an atheist to step in and suggest that maybe....just maybe...the author of creation (if there were one) isn;t such a flamingly human douche.

@ The above

See..the disconnect persists. "Truth", as though it would be enough even if it really were true. Many things exist. The truth of that statement isn;t really enough to purchase peoples allegiance. That was the whole point of the hell and/or annihilation chaser. They weren;t marketing their religion to atheists, they were marketing their religion to other god believers. Simply saying "because there is a god" wouldn;t have been enough.

The prospective mark would have simply replied "Yeah, I know, and it;s name is X".
I am the Infantry. I am my country’s strength in war, her deterrent in peace. I am the heart of the fight… wherever, whenever. I carry America’s faith and honor against her enemies. I am the Queen of Battle. I am what my country expects me to be, the best trained Soldier in the world. In the race for victory, I am swift, determined, and courageous, armed with a fierce will to win. Never will I fail my country’s trust. Always I fight on…through the foe, to the objective, to triumph overall. If necessary, I will fight to my death. By my steadfast courage, I have won more than 200 years of freedom. I yield not to weakness, to hunger, to cowardice, to fatigue, to superior odds, For I am mentally tough, physically strong, and morally straight. RE: Question to theists
Although I understand people following religions out of fear, it makes no logical sense. I'm planning to do a video soon about this.

It's also always assumed that God will actually do what he says he will do (not that he's even said anything), with us being unable to confirm that he has done so (even once) regarding "the afterlife". Assuming he doesn't lie because he says he doesn't lie is... triangular?

I don't trust anyone who is coercing me with torture in the first place.

You should find a Seventh Day Adventist to ask this question, this is what they believe and yet they worship God.

First of all God is not a magical being, He has ultimate powers that are used in ways that represent who He is, not who you think Him to be. Eternal life with God in a place that is perfect forever, being in the presence of the only life giver, loving the One who first loved us, worshiping the One who chose to save you, learning each day about the eternal God who is never ending, never had a beginning and who exists in all times at once and ect. Yep there is an endless number of reasons to follow God the best is love, he loves us enough to give His Son as a sacrifice to save our miserable hides, redeeming us into the likeness of His Son, perfect and unblemished. By the way the Adventist do not believe they can know that they are truly saved until Christ's second coming, so this annihilation theory is an insurance policy against eternal payment for eternally unforgiven sin. This in my opinion eases their fear of having to live by the law. Just saying.

God loves those who believe and those who do not and the same goes for me, you have no choice in this matter. That puts the matter of total free will to rest.

RE: Question to theists
This whole magic thing really bothers you.  You;re going on about it in multiple threads...but I cant see why?

You believe in a magical universe magically created for a magical you that now stands as the magical backdrop for a magical test to determine whether or not you are magically reunited with your magical father in his magical kingdom.

How can you possibly imagine that you have a problem with magic?

Anyway, I;m not personally interested in any of the stuff up above. The problem isn;t really whether or not it;s true, it;s that none of it gives me a reason to be your gods magical besty. Frankly, if your fairy tale were true..it would only make me detest the god you worship. See...I have a better relationship with him as an atheist than I would have as a believer.

You're not being coerced you are being told the truth of what will be, giving you a choice to avoid the eternal punishment. Soldiers who are in battle with the enemy know if they stand up in plain sight they will be killed, so they choose to stay alive by keeping themselves protected. They are not being coerced into keeping themselves safe, they understand the truth of the situation and respond accordingly. Same with God, He has told you that in the battle of good and evil you are a soldier and if you make a wrong choice you will die, God lays out the consequences so everyone will know, He hides nothing from us.

Before my birth I didn't exist eternity without God and I will carry to be doing so after my death. Death is much more welcoming compared to that Tyrant you adore so much.

That has to be one of the most disturbing things I;ve ever heard about a god...in addition to one of the most disrespectful things I;ve ever heard about soldiering.  Bravo.
