You’ll find that this sentiment is widely held within antifa in the us as well, though it obviously isn’t uniform and there isn’t any central body to enforce uniformity even if it did exist.

Why don’t they attack each other for their vast political disagreements?

In any case, the reason that any person or organization is targeted for direct action, whether that’s a social media campaign, protests, sustained heckling, property damage, or actual violence...is the perception that those people or organizations promote facism, racism, etc.

As for actual violence against people, that’s generally not a targeted thing .. and as mentioned before, a vanishingly small portion of what they do. It’s usually an effect of some protest turning ( or flirting with turning into) a riot. That, ofc, only applies when it’s nit an alt right hoax, as is more often than not the case.

Which leads me into something Boru commented on earlier, about how, 80 years ago they’d be called blackshirts. Not even remotely, but the success of the right wing propaganda mill has been to conflate them with those groups today. Leading to threads like these and questions like yours.

Honestly, the easiest way to figure out who they are, what motivates them, and what they do...is to go check it out for yourself.

Firstly the notion that “they” attack people is right wing baiting. Secondly, they don’t attack people for having disagreements... or even for -being- fascists. They believe that electoral action is an insufficient response to fascism, and prefer direct action... towards those they perceive to be promoting or advancing facism.


We can disagree with them and their methods all we like. I for example, don’t think that they’ll ever possess the stomach for the sort of violence a direct response to facism necessitates. Even so, it helps to understand what they actually are and do if we’re going to have a conversation about antifa that amounts to more than repeating the myth of the right wings boogeymsn.

The violence was not justified, but it wasn't purely a political disagreement. Ngo was well known and despised by Portland antifa members, not least for doxxing one of their members. There was a strong personal element to the attack, he was hated.

I don't condone brawling or other violence by antifa, but they have no equivalent to church, mosque, or synagogue shootings or the murder of Heyer. Their tactics are unacceptable and in my opinion do more to feed the right wing fear narative than to improve things (I think they should use strictly nonviolent protest), but in no way is US antifa an example of 'they do it too' without a body count.

It’s probably more accurate to say that you oppose violence, as “their tactics” are largely protest and protest support.

Their lack of central authority is, in this regard, both a pro and a con. They’re resistant to the usual movement breaking tactics police employ, but also can’t reign in a punch happy member.

It has, ofc, occurred to antifa organizers that any violence, provoked or unprovoked, will be grist fir the propaganda mill. Idk that it actually matters much from a practical standpoint, as antifa would get blamed for violence even if they didn’t do it, lol.

If I saw richard spencer walking down the street I’d be tempted to punch him in the face, and if u did, the headlines would run “undercover plainclothes antifa terrorist assaults prominent conservative commentator” on the yellow press come the next morning.

When you attack someone without provocation, nothing else you have to say matters. It doesn't matter how much you hate someone or what they did to you. In the Western World, we call that assault. Not to mention, Ngo claims that he didn't doxx anyone; he named someone by first and last name and released a picture of them. Those are his word. To me, that's far different from releasing someone's personal phone number or home address, which antifa did to some 1500 ICE agents.
