I usually am very good about holding my tongue on facebook, but this irked the shit out of me, so I posted a comment that said:
I Wrote:I don't see a problem with either, but I would hope that if there is a god, he has more important things to do than help someone win a football game. I, personally, think that public prayer is not a big deal. Pray on if you want. I'm more concerned with people doing harmful things in public. Prayer is benign.
A few minutes later I received this:
Crazy Evangelical Aunt Wrote:Leigh, you know I like to answer these things privately because I dont ever want to appear to be ridiculing you in any way because I am not but others might think so and I don't want to even take the chance on that. So hear goes...
Since you are an atheist and that is your right and I am certainly not going to use this platform to try and convince you otherwise. I do however think that I should explain to you a little bit about God and prayer and the gifts and talents that God gives us. All good gifts, in this case Tim Tebow's gift is a great football player, should all be used to further the Kingdom of God. The 'platform' that God has given to Tebow, is the football field. Tebow has a desire in his heart to give God thanks and glory because he knows that God is the one that has given him his talents, he also has a responsibility as a Christian to show the world that he recognizes God as his Lord and King. All of us are given platforms to spread the good news of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ some are just more public than others. Unfortunately many Christians fail and are not bold in their worship of the one true God. Tebow isn't and that's why everybody is talking about him. It should be such the norm that the talk would be about the Christian that doesn't give glory to God. There are other 'professed' Christians standing on that field with Tebow... my question is why aren't they bold enough to kneel in praise and glory of the mighty God they claim to believe in.
The media and the most americans readily accept muslims worshiping in their workplace and schools when Christians are not even allowed to speak the name of Jesus in many of these places... even you can surely see the injustice in that.
I don't want to come off as arrogant, antagonistic, or rude... so basically, I don't know what to say.

What would you say?
Please let her know that Christians have taken the opportunity of what 2-3 people said about Tim Tebow praying and have thrown it around as a majority of people disliking Tebow because of his religion. Actually, almost all of Tebow's critics are not bashing Tebow, the Christian, but Tebow, the player. He has a ridiculous throwing motion and doesn't necessarily have the tools to be a consistently great NFL quarterback. I've had conversations with several of my Christian friends and associates who agree with this point.
Many Christians have taken his critics words and twisted them for their agenda. Most non-Christians don't care about Tebow flaunting his religion around. The 2-3 people who have been only a little critical of it points to the fact that it may be a distraction, that's all. The rest have been critical of his throwing motion and his ability as a NFL quarterback. This is only propaganda to get Christians riled up and a great marketing ploy of Christians.

This may be a little excessive as a way to get back at your aunt but hey .. what are ya gonna do?

You should expect these things...
At the age of five, Skagra decided emphatically that God did not exist. This revelation tends to make most people in the universe who have it react in one of two ways - with relief or with despair. Only Skagra responded to it by thinking, 'Wait a second. That means there's a situation vacant.'

I've been meaning to post an update, because I did reply. I decided to only reply with the bible verses that revj put in his suggestion about how Jesus said you're not supposed to flaunt your prayers.
That's literally all I put in the reply. I thought that anything I said probably wouldn't matter, but surely she cared what Jesus had to say since she loves him so much, and all.
Here is the reply she sent to that:
Alei's Aunt Wrote:I'm sorry, but I am afraid that we're going to have to agree to disagree on this. When Jesus said those things it was intended for a world where everyone believed in him like they did back then, not for the world we live in now, when everyone doesn't but needs to. I love you!

now you have your excuse to any bible verse of Christian crap she tries to pull on you.
Use the same excuse she used.
Aunt - "you should worship jesus"
You - "Naw, thats what Jesus intended for the people back then, and has nothing to do with the world we live in today.
Aunt - "homosexuals are evil"
You - "Naw, thats what Jesus intended for the people back then, and has nothing to do with the world we live in today.
Go right ahead and use her excuse. Her excuse will work on ever single verse in the bible.
And if she protests...and she will...just be sure to mention that it is a legitimate excuse, and until Jesus physically shows up right here and right now to straighten out the matter, you will continue to use it.
Then thank your aunt for teaching you that excuse.
...then again, the way you talk about her, you pretty much avoid her anyways, which is probably for the best.
