What made you become an atheist?

In my case I make a distinction between atheism and nonbelief, because for my whole life I've been a nonbeliever- let's call it deism, because I had the loosest of loose concepts of god, and beyond that a desire that there be one, but only the smallest pulses of faith.
But then I got interested in this stuff. I began watching debates, scoping out arguments for and against god, and what I found was not only that the arguments for the atheist position were more compelling, but that the majority of the liars, spin doctors, fraudsters and simple terrible debaters were on the side of god. I became an atheist by watching other atheists, but I became an active one who argues about this shit because of the magnitude of the dishonesty and poor argumentation from the theistic side. The former was compelling, the latter pissed me off enough to want to do something about it.

For me it was investigation: I studied biology and chemistry and read the bible in the same 2 year period. Bible was clearly nonsense, science made lots of sense.
I had a gay friend in college that challenged me on it constantly because to was a former christian. That when i stopped and though why would god make gay people then order them killed for being gay and then send them to hell for it? After that thw nature of the bible became plain as day.

A self-led school project on the Bermuda Triangle; found out that was bullshit when I really wanted it to be true, then started looking into psychics, tarot, astrology, Lock Ness and Big Foot, ghosts, astral projection, and creationism (and a whole host of other wacky stuff but creationism is what opened the door to questioning religion and god). I found that I didn't believe any of it and there was no good reason to believe any of it.
Teenaged X-Files obsession + Bermuda Triangle episode + Self-led school research project = Atheist.
There is a heaven for us after death yes?
Well is there a heaven for dogs? Ants? Cats? Tigers? You get the picture.... Why are we so special???, we are not, this ideology is a result of a bigger brain that's all, we are so self aware. Humans think too much and as a subsequence think we are more important than anything else,!!! Oh dear.
Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, Santa.......I recognised a sequence and God disappeared in a puff of logic. I was 9.
