It's a cautionary verse "If you stop screwing women you'll end up taking it up the ass". What do you think "working shame" might be? How does one go about working shame? What do you imagine the difference between lewd wantonness and prostitution was to the authors of the text? The meaning need not be changed, just show me where in that verse that homosexuality is coined as a sin?
Scripture....is....silent. You are not.
The verse is talking about people who refuse to believe in God, the type of mentality that appears in people who refuse to believe in God and their resultant behavior.
"they did not glorify [Him] as God, nor gave thanks, but were made vain in their reasonings, and their unintelligent heart was darkened,
22 professing to be wise, they were made fools,"
"29 having been filled with all unrighteousness, whoredom, wickedness, covetousness, malice; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil dispositions; whisperers,
30 evil-speakers, God-haters, insulting, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 unintelligent, faithless, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful;"Youngs literal translation
So it isnt saying that if you stop being with women you turn to men, it is saying that if you deny God you are given over to this type of behavior. As for it being specifically named as a sin, the verse ends by saying,
"that those practising such things are worthy of death -- not only do them, but also have delight with those practising them"youngs literal translation.
Fairly clear I think.
So do you thing Gay people should be put to death then?

That's not for me to decide, the bible teaches repentance and forgiveness, I would be more hopeful that they repent and change their ways.

Oh how quickly your convictions falter. That's some impressive brinksmanship you've applied to your faith.
So let me get this straight, you've stretched the text to justify your bigotry, but refuse to apply it verbatim when the final thoughts exceed your comfort level?
The homosexual who believes has precisely what to repent for with regards to his or her homosexuality?

I think I'm being perfectly consistent in my understanding, the new testament teaches about the reality of sin the wages of sin, but also teaches at its core, forgiveness, non judgement and repentance. This doesn't mean you have to approve of or in any way accept that sin is ok. The old phrase "hate the sin, not the sinner" springs to mind. I don't see any contradiction. The text doesn't say "go and kill people who are x,y,z" it says they are deserving of death. As to your question any homosexual engaging in homosexual sex is committing a sin. Sex for a Christian should only be within marriage and by definition homosexuals cannot be considered as married.
BTW it was you who "stretched the text" to fit your opinions, I simply kept the literal understanding.

Then you are confirming that anti gay sentiments are a core part of Christianity. No news there.

I never claimed it was news, what I'm against is people trying to say that Christianity doesn't really condemn homosexual behavior, it clearly does.

It can certainly be interpreted that way, as it clearly is.

Its not a matter of interpretation, its not some ambiguous piece of obscure text, its very clear and simple to anyone who reads it. All of this obfuscation by the pro-gay movement is obvious to anyone with half a brain. Its on a par with the ridiculous argument that men who have sex with boys are not gay, some mental gymnastics with that one!

Look I will let you on a little secret: I am Gay, and for the life of me I can not change it even if I wanted to, its hard wired into every cell of my body. the Abraham religions are anti-gay and is creating bigots its not there fault there, bigots it the way they were brought up. And repent for what? being who I am, to say sorry I am gay because that's how I was made, no I don't think so.

Bigotry is always disgusting to me, but the way you people justify it with your purported worship of a "loving" god makes me want to vomit.
